None of the picture attachments open for me…

Maybe a bit to quick as I may have still been editing the posts. I have just tested them and they look fine and all open up. These are from my own website server, which means I can edit them in the future and keep them up-to-date, something that cannot be done when using attachments. Take a bit more work, but more flexible.

Guys, let me know if there are any typos etc, and I will edit.

Cheers, Joe

Joe, I guess maybe they come up for you because you have them cached. It appears your site certificate has expired.

I have installed a new certificate, not sure how instant it is. Just another way to get more money out of you!

When it is confirmed that it works, I will also be posting in the other place re Group Buys. I am trying comply with both requirements here and rules.

It took a while, however. But it's ready. And of course they play beautifully.

This time the concept of performance is different. These sets will work for me as part of the audition in the editing studio. Me and my clients will listen to films on them :) I tried to make them as mobile as possible, i.e. easy to transport. That's why a detachable crossover module that weighs a lot. I still need legs to be fully finished.

I connected my PASS FW2J Clone with my Elsonores, realy nice. I didn't really espect, that a transconductance amplifier would work that good with the Elsinores. Shligthly darker than my Yamaha V-Fet diy, not exactly that clear, but a lot more ompf. My girl friend likes to listen to AC/DC https://files.diyaudio.com/forums/images/icons/icon11.gif, not my taste. But she like it a lot, quite near to concert.
So to Joe, once again, an excellent speaker, chapeau.
I added the actual changes, but I didn`t recognize obvious altering of the sound.

I like the way you got them to look good using plywood only, without having to veneer them. What did you treat the wood with?

I see a flared port (both sides?), what diameter & length did you use?

maximax77,

The plywood is varnished with a colorless wood primer. Kapon. Just. No frills. Two layers. For the first pair of Elsinore, I even painted three layers. The last one was wet sanded with 1500 paper.

Unfortunately, the final look of the new pair is not exactly what I assumed it to be. The plywood I bought was not of good quality. It was not waterproof. My garage is not dry. We had a lot of rains this summer. The discoloration you see is the moisture it has absorbed. In addition, a very thin first layer caused severe fraying during milling. For comparison, I enclose a photo of what it looks like with good quality material.

Fortunately, in total, the value turned out to be quite remarkable. Such a loft. I like it. I was on the verge of cutting the edges off to remove the frayed layer and pasting a strip of some kind of wood in, but decided against it.

As for the basreflex pipe. I bought a bigger one because I couldn't find the size Joe recommended.

So it has a larger diameter and length, but it fits perfectly. Measurements have shown that without any interference with the length, the housing shows a tuning at 33Hz. So according to the design.

For reasons explained earlier, I need those links to work so that I can edit them in the future and next time you view them, errors and changes will be up-to-date. That is why I don't want to use attachments.

I left-click on the padlock and it says:

Connection is secure. Certificate valid.

I refreshed the page and it worked, please try likewise.

The inline pictures still don’t open on my iPhone, but the temp link works and I placed an order. Thanks!

Many thanks for the explanations, this is very useful. High quality birch plywood has become hard to find and expensive, at least in the UK, and most suppliers don’t supply info on whether the ply is void-free. I may have to resort to moisture-resistant MDF, at least the density is similar to plywood. But then I will have to veneer…
