So I did go ahead and picked up a few of the ones listed in the thread title to have available for any future builds.
Rafa, those are way past what i was looking to spend on one (thank you though). Since I have not done any serious looking at tube amp designs; I do not know if that is what will be in the ball park for any nice design out there. I will not post amything else about this in this thread as I do not want to derail it anymore than I have.

Off topic:
If anyone know of a nice tube amp that does not cost a ton to build (I know that’s realities), I you could send me a PM on it that would be great.
Just a quick, still off-topic reply:
Guitar amp or hifi ?
For guitar, have a look here:
MADAMP
(might be more convenient for us here in Europe)
For hifi, designs by John Broskie of TubeCad are always interesting:
Unexpectedly good EL84 amp
I have built this one, and in my incarnation I find it absolutely fantastic.
Sorry for offtopic - Claas
I wish if there were practical class-A designs where you don't need these premium priced parts. Paying $50 for 4 TO-92 transistors are kind of insane. The current pricing will kill DIY spirit. Most serious DIY'ers won't settle with just one amplifier build.
As I point out in another thread, you can use the Gr grades with much the same quality, and with little or no adjustment. Also you can use the Linear systems parts, including their a grade.
Much of the cost of some of these parts is due to audio guys wanting perfect matching, which is usually not necessary. In addition there are some cheaper surface mount parts.
Finally you can use parts like J113 and J176 which do not have as high a transconductance or low distortion or noise, but which will can still sound good and are cheap. Members here will probably mention their own alternatives.

Which one worth it better for a diyer?
Two pair, it is for $43:
Genuine Toshiba 2SK170BL/2SJ74BL high transconductance JFET complimentary pair | eBay
or it is for $65000:
Siltech Triple Crown Speaker Cable
For the price of the second one, I would buy a little house somewhere off the map, where I could listen to what I have.

Thanks for the link! I know only very basics of FETs, never used them in analog circuits.. and still learning!!
I am looking at these: Toshiba 2SJ74BL LAB MATCHED PAIR to 0.03mA / 4mV in Temp Control Lab (7-8mA) "B" | eBay

Am I correct in assuming that BL is preferred over GR (for 2SJ74) in Aleph J?
Actually, it's just fine. Aleph J was running about 4.5 mA on each of
the input devices, right in the zone.

For the record (not to criticize other vendors of the parts) I will say that Punkydawgs
on ebay is known to me personally, and so I can vouch for his product. He is an
audio professional, and I remember back when he made the $$$$ investment in
Toshiba Jfets. The parts and his matching are everything je claims.

When I was communicating with him about some parts I mentioned to him that I ended up at his page since you had mentioned him. He said he has known you forever and that you living close by.
He was easy to work with and answered all the questions I had for him.
Seems like a very nice and damn smart guy.
Does anyone know if Punkydawgs ships to the EU?
It says he doesnt ship to Germany on his ebay listings and i cant find any other reputable ebay listings inside of the EU.
I need some matched SJ74s and they currently are OOS on the diyAudio store.
(eta on when they might be back in stock anyone?)

I would send the seller a message, there's no obvious reason (at least to me) not to ship to the EU, and shipping cost shouldn't be the dealbreaker neither.

To Italy

Cleaning endless unfinished projects and scrapping parts from something I will never finish I found this. It worked ok as I remember (many years ago), but does that look like a real J74 to you? It has a dimple on the back and that top notch is 2.3mm as on original jfets, but those letters...
