DIY Sony VFET lottery discussion

Good morning to everyone and in particular to Nelson who as always is generous with our community. I'm not usually lucky with lotteries but I hope I can have this gem in my hands. I grew up with a beautiful yamaha B1 that came into my parents' house when I was 15 (41 years ago) and that still works at my mom's house. I define myself as a goat with a welder but thanks to this community and in particular to Nelson, because for me it is the genius of the lamp who made me passionate about self-construction and gave me the stimulus to build objects that sound really good. I built several things but my favorites are the F5 with the toshiba and the sissysit in which I found a special magic. I am sure that the lucky ones who have this jewel will be able to enjoy the magical sound of a V-Fet born for audio. Nelson is really giving us much more than these V-fetes which are the heart of the project and are irreplaceable and unobtainable. He is giving us love and passion for this special world. I praise the linked charity initiative so much to these kits. Thanks again Nelson and everyone who made diyaudio a family!

Thanks to all the team that had a hand in this offering, your generosity is appreciated. The lottery is exciting, and win or lose, I will have at least one off the Pass offerings to build due to the Tokin purchase. So I look at it as a win-win. I wish everyone the best of luck.

Can we speak about the amp and not the lottery ? please .....

haaaaa a wise man ! :D

i have built the Sony Vfet 1 and 2 , LAMP sitamp , the Iron SITAMP two some with THF51S sort of NEMESIS clone. then i have built a normal M2 and sold the Vfets .. the joy was in the building not the results as they all sounded good

this new V1 looks like a win/win with the M2 front end with single ended / Vfet Buffer ..

happy to play with the solder gun again :)

I am a very lucky man, and though I will have only 3 lottery tickets for my years as a quiet member, 1 will be drawn. Since I have no experience yet in building an amp, I thought I should do some last minute cramming, so I tried to make the Amp Camp Amp purchase I had been putting off for so long. Apparently I was not the only procrastinator using this logic- they sold out today. Rats.

Where is information about the number of lottery tickets?

  • Every entrant gets one ticket
  • An additional ticket is given for every thread in the Pass Labs forum you have participated in (one ticket per thread; only participation before April 1st 2021 will be counted)
  • An additional ticket is given for every year you have been a paid member (before April 1st 2021)

I would like to ask again if the future Tokin-based topology will be a little more capable in the power delivery section.
I am asking because i am evaluating what route to follow, and if the tokins will give more power (that suits better my system) i am happy to leave my place to others on this lottery.

Sorry for my off-t

:clown:

****means - amps are no good, going straight to OPLDF

Hello everyone, I'm the guy that built this:

My Sony VFET CSX1 Adventures & Grief !

In there i've noted that I was late in the party of VFets (as I was lost in building vacuum tube amplifiers in AudioAsylum for well over a decade). I've also noted in my posts about 'hoarders' that purchased remaining available VFets and left them in the drawers... treating them like investments. Not an ideal situation.

I can't say enough how great this new offering is coming about. Having a lottery directly addresses this problem and by having another 2ndary offering at a later stage, will give other DIYers a chance if they missed the 1st offering. It's a big difference to when the original Sony VFet stash out in Singapore came about, hoards of people bought them up leaving no choice for those like myself to hunt off others for VFets - yes trying to buy what they left in drawers for years.

Thank you Mr Nelson Pass for keeping DIY audio alive. You may not remember me but my first amp I built was your Son of Zen way back in 2002 or so. Being of considerable size, (listed in your gallery) I had the luxury (or luck) of coming across a bunch of Plinius Audio heatsinks from the local scrap metal recyclers here in NZ.

I also appreciate how this upcoming Sony VFet project, being in kit form, will have a much wider appeal (as not everyone has workshops at their disposal). Though, it would be nice to consider going back to your SoZ days. Particularly how some of us have acquired these rather large Tokin SIT that are good up to 1KV, I could only image these devices would crank out some serious heat, which means we need to start thinking about using serious sized heatsinks :D

I first asked Nelson about designing a SE using 2SJ28 in 2016.

Sony VFET Amplifier Part 2

Now it appears almost 4 years later and my chances of getting a kit are practically nil. I am happy there is so much interest in this build though. I have been looking for it everyday since first asking Nelson for a schematic in August 2016. I still have a pair of 2SJ28's so maybe if I wait some more some boards will be readily available for people like me. There is also a chance some member will have some made. It goes without saying that I am disappointed for little or no chance of obtaining a kit but such is life.

lottery tickets are fun because you get to dream about winning. Same here with thinking "wouldn't it be so much fun".
It has been a rough year with very few "I can't wait until this date" moments because nothing really fun was coming up in the near future. It is just nice having something to look forward to.
Even if I don't win a spot, I get to be excited about something; for a few days, it feels like there is a concert coming up or a big movie I want to see just around the corner. And if I miss this one I get to think about it for another two months for the next shot :)
