Dartzeel amp schematic - build this?

If we are talking about a soft start, then considering in my amplifier 280000 uF, it is simply physically necessary.:(
Exactly :)
I just checked :D we are in a topic about Dartzeel. Original have 262mF in secondaries combined. So I tend to assume that when trying to build a clone it is given, that value of caps at least half of that. And anyone who ever tried to build power supply for similar power amp is familiar with the challenges of running close to or over a hundred millifarads filter caps. So soft start must be present by default :)

Over the last week I have been experimenting with adding an additional pair of transistors to one of my 108 clones.

This particular amp feeds the bass speakers in one of my systems, so that is where I did most of the listening.

The transistors were only beta matched at around 1A. Two types of emitter resisors were used: Dale 5W inductive ww 0.1ohm and Caddock thivk film MP930 0.25ohm. Despite the lower damping factor with the Caddocks the sound was much better, even the bass.

As a whole the experiment was not successful. These particular speakers did not benefit from the added current ability and the added transistors/resistors destroyed all midrange magic the amp had previously. Surprisingly, even though feeding only a bass speaker (350Hz) the effects of the emitter resistors was audible even in the treble.

I also tried the amp as full range with some pretty demanding speakers that dip below 3 ohms. With a single transistor pair it was almost unusable with those speakers whereas with 2 pairs it became quite enjoyable. Some midrange roughness that paralleling brought was again evident but for some reason not so annoying.

This saves me the effort to design new boards as the parallel 108 is clearly not for me.

I already wrote it after reworking the 108 and getting to insert 4 pairs of power amplifiers:
the 108 seems to be made to remain so and reworking it too much makes you lose the original DNA, like it or not as it originally sounds.
The improvements are achieved by stabilizing the input stages, drivers and power amplifiers, but it is not worth it, demanding work

With all due respect to everyone, firstly, the developer himself does not recommend using two pairs of output transistors in model No. 1, and secondly, if you carefully look at the photos on the network, the original model No. 2 has nothing to do with the Chinese clone of amplifier No. 2, which posted even on a Hungarian site there is no copy, since there is no specific information and photos, I think domenico80 will support me or refute it.

Yes. Which does not stop him to add a second pair in No2 without much fanfare and advertising :p

Let's not involve the Chinese clones here as it only dilutes the subject. A second pair (at least) is essential for difficult loads.

The question is how much does it compromise the sound and why no one complains that No2 sounds worse than No1 on easy speakers.

There is also the possibility that No2 is not following the No1 topology at all but is rather a miniature 458.

I don't know model 2.
After working a lot around the Chinese clone of 108, I think I understand the reasons that pushed the designer Dartzeel towards a similar circuit typology.
It can be shared or not, but it is.
I admit that it does not find my taste despite the work done by me, but I say that it makes sense, despite the many limits it has and demonstrates.
Few speakers are suitable for 108, for various reasons

here, if the model 2 was a miniature of the 458, then the meaning could be interesting, accepted the 108 in full with its strengths and weaknesses

If you need.

Do you have an alternative? We've heard but never have seen any viable alternative. This is a DO It Yourself discussion board, about DOING things, for us less skilled in the art too. Free discussion board.
But if you have some important scientific breakthrough to share, then publish your original work in some relevant publication. That's what I've done on several occasions in top 5 Science Citation Index magazines, of course, in my area of professional interest. Here, we are just enthusiastic newbies, eager to find information how to DO things. We need help, not silencing.
Nothing personal, strictly business.
My 2 cents.

we are so sure
1 - that Chinese clones are nonsense?
2 - that they are so different from the original?
3 - But does the original exist?
Let's see:
1A - The prints appear identical to the original (I heard it with its pre and also open, with the permission of the owner)
2A - if they are different I'm curious to know where and how. I have replaced all the transistors to have a manic, fine selection
3A - ORIGINAL? And what does it mean, TODAY?

I think, I'm sure and I bet as well as you want that, TODAY, a careful DIY can do better than the original.
Questions?:D

One Russian hobbyist bought dartsil boards in China, and it was good, but probably with bad details since he purchased his version from Garbag and wrote that his version sounds better. This is to the fact that without changing the circuit, you can improve the sound of Chinese clones (if purchased in the amplifier housing ) by replacing with the best components, or try the version of garbag. I'm still sitting on the Chinese version.:)

you have to understand what is meant by <sounds better>.
