Is there not an SMD device that can be mounted onto a daughter board that can be used in place of the SK170 or LSK170. Getting stuff out to South Africa is extremely costly after having to pay R15 to the $ for the device itself.

Microchip via RS Components make depletion mode mosfets.
I found the 2sk170 to have a low DS max voltage so used Microchip devices instead.
Although, you have to beware Microchip pin out is opposite to 2sk170.
