And what did we buy today?

Hi leadbelly,
Sounds like a good plan. Using parts on hand is always the best way to go unless they don't suit the application.

So once you're done, do you play? Are you going to take an axe to it?

Unfortunately, I am too lazy and easily distracted to really progress on guitar. I do very much like the building of things with my hands. Just as some members on the forum probably are driven by some image of a high end system in there youth, I vividly remember Johnny Ramone's REAL "wall of Marshall". I promised my wife I would sell some stuff if neither of my kids takes up guitar or bass.

... a new thermostat to fix the a/c at the rental house. The thermostat seems to have failed in a way that heating works but cooling doesn't. Odd but seems to be the case....

The classic heat/cool thermostat has separate wires for Heat and Cool (and Fan). But every maker has variant schemes, and the average hacker gets confused. Get the manual for *this* thermostat, and Google general thermostat wiring, I'm sure you can figure it out.

Basic heat/cool/fan wiring -- if the yellow wire is connected wrong, no cool ("condenser" should say "compressor", the outside box)

Yeah, I know it sounds odd, but it was a thermostat that operated both furnace and A/C properly for a few years, and then stopped working for A/C. I was suspicious that failure was the case, and assumed it was more likely that an important setting was wiped out by a battery change, but I went through all the settings countless times and gave up. Failure is plausible, since loads are dissimilar. The heating output has to drive the furnace, but the cooling output has to drive the furnace and A/C in parallel. It was a no name brand; I installed a Honeywell today and it worked right away.

Bought some more beer, Molson Export, as it was on sale at the only liquor store chain I've seen it at so far.

Made it out to the 50% sale at Pick n Pull (yes, we do get some Memorial Day sales at US chain stores), but all I picked up was a scissor jack for $5. Google said it's for the smaller Blazers which weigh 4300 lbs, so should work for my 3100 lb Corvette.

Watching a thrilling program about the killing of kids in Atlanta in early 80’s when the power went off and came back 4-5 seconds later.
The router and TV-box started after some fiddling but my PC was dead😡.
I have reserved a PSU in a shop 20 miles away (nearest shop) and hope a new one will solve my problems.:xfingers:
I got a spare (brand new m/b) in worst case and hope discs have survived.

So a gallon of gas and 50 bucks ... and I have at least a working PSU.

Same thing happened here.....
We had a power outage for a few seconds and when it came on again, the control unit for the oil heating had blown.
So I have obtained a replacement of EBAY and am now waiting for the heating engineer to put it in. The boiler requires it's annual service anyway.

Just bought a defective Revox B-261 tuner. Looks like the MPU is dead, so I have the world's most expensive Revox power cord (that came with it)!

If anyone has an MPU board, or cosmetically distressed B-261, please let me know. I hate seeing good equipment unrepaired and heading for scrap. I'd be happy with one in almost any condition as long as it does turn on and off with the power button.

1000' Cat6 cable and terminations, and a label maker. Guess what is getting updated this weekend? Also took delivery on some Naiant cables with resistors (one variable which is cool), to gain-stage my setup as I integrate the DBX Venu360 I recently picked up. A lot of goodies, but all combined, still less than retail on the DBX, as I got a good price on a used like-new unit.

Hi badman,
Sounds like a project!

I was able to prewire my house before we moved in due to a great builder. So it got CAT-3 for phones, CAT-5 for computers and some RG-6 for antenna runs. It has all turned out to be pretty darned convenient. Glad I was able to do it.

Drove out to the farther, larger Pick n Pull for the last day of the sale yesterday. Picked up a window motor and 2 more emergency jacks for $5 each, 1 an aluminum lever jack for VW/Audi, and 1 a steel lever jack for BMW E65. Yes, it's a little OCD to buy 3 jacks, but jacking a low car like a Corvette with a flat tire isn't trivial, and I'm not sure which 1 is best yet. At $5 I don't care so much.

Ordered a bottle of Cataclean yesterday, but today the Flex is smoking blue exhaust. Might be the end. I'll never buy another Ecoboost.
