And what did we buy today?

Looks like a Fender, doesn't sound like a Fender.

I think the pedals are the way to go here. That amp will never sound decent if pushed into distortion. This is a case of the amp staying clean while something else does the heavy lifting for your "sound".

Normal channel is pretty normal. Drive channel is some filtering then a diode clipper with no top-cut, which may well be "harsh". But hey, it's gotta "bite" on the showroom floor. And it may be good when you play against a drummer.

In the 1980's I spotted a soft limiter circuit in Wireless World.
It gives valve type distortion without the cost of a valve circuit.
It basically puts a couple of transistors in a feedback loop controlled by a pot.
On its own it sounds ok but I found a bit of treble boost made it cut through better.

5 cases of 12 President's Choice (grocery brand) IPA for $12 each, the only $1 beer I enjoy drinking.

Garage sale season has started, and I scored a quality, NIB set of bocce balls for $40. Time to introduce the girls to more of their Italian heritage.

It's got plenty of bite 😉 It certainly satisfies the owner, just not so much the owners dad!! 😉

Hi soundbrigade,
I have a bunch of nixies too from an old instrument.
Now that sounds like a project for your bench in the future.
Also have two VFD-displays which are, in my humble opinion, cooler.
I'll agree with you on that. Still, love the idea uses the Nixie tubes for the bench. I need to create a clock that will run on my GPS receiver some day. That, along with the reference clock for the bench would top the cool list for that type of thing.

At any rate, both of those displays that you already have are excellent projects. Looking forward to see if you post one of them, probably in a ferw years from now.

Yes, the VFDs are good-looking, hell even the Numitrons are kinda cool.

The only quibble I have with many of these designs is the open-air style. I think these tubes look best against some sort of dark background to increase the contrast. I suppose I could mod the case somehow to provide this, hmm.

I also worry about running them continuously, but haven't figured out an effective on-demand scheme to fire them up only when I'm looking at them. Perhaps some sort of face-recognition, retina-scanning device, heh.

There's this place in Brexitannia: PV-Electronics.

I have a bunch of nixies too from an old instrument. Got to check them up one day.

Also have two VFD-displays which are, in my humble opinion, cooler. And two Russian clock ICs to go with them.

I've almost persuade myself to buy something matching that description. I know nothing about the driving circuitry required though!
