I don't know about star ground. Read that it could be more trouble than it's worth.
If leads are different lengths, could have potential difference.

Staying Well Grounded | Analog Devices

The star grounding philosophy, while reasonable theoretically, is difficult to implement in practice. For example, if we design a star ground system, drawing out all signal paths to minimize signal interaction and the effects of high impedance signal or ground paths, implementation problems arise. When the power supplies are added to the circuit diagram, they either add unwanted ground paths, or their supply currents flowing in the existing ground paths are large enough, or noisy enough (or both), to corrupt the signal transmission. This particular problem can often be avoided by having separate power supplies (and, thus, separate ground returns) for the various portions of the circuit. For example, separate analog and digital supplies with separate analog and digital grounds, joined at the star point, are common in mixed-signal applications.

Now you can share secrets with Greedy Boyz

Not much secret, grounding can be funny. Sometimes solved differently than would expect. Using wire with alligators on end, try connections until quiet.

Building these First Watt amps there is always someone who has already plowed ground before you Look at 6l6 build guides. I have always had his methods work. If you have one that doesn't, read, then ask. Most every build thread has someone battling hum. Easy Peasy, just need to read the guides.

If something other than First Watt, star grounding isn't a bad place to start.

Ok need some help from those who know stuff I have no clue about... yet. My build may be very SLOW, due to being distracted often by my little one running around... but things are progressing to the point where real electricity is going to be applied...

What kind of fuse do I need? About all I know from my readings is that it should be a slow blow fuse. I am using the Glassworks\Tubecad dual/bipolar regulator Jim suggested, along with the transformer suggested. I do have a curveball to my question...

My attenuator/selector that I will use is a Vicol Audio (apparently now suddenly defunct entity) Maya. It uses an additional transformer AN-0209 - 25VA 9V TRANSFORMER
to power itself. Once the switch on the back of the preamp is turned on power goes to Maya. You would then have to power on the front Maya switch to give the Wayne linestage transformer power and power up the whole preamp.

So what kind of fuse would I need? Thanks in advance

best logic is that each xformer is having own dedicated mains fuse , easily calculated as VA/Vac , then go to first standard bigger size , or smaller if it's really close

in case of ( one noted) 25VA , that would be 25VA/120V= 208mA , F0.2A being close enough

with small ones I'm always using Fast fuse

Hello Dudeisms,

I like the NEUTRIK XLR and chinch/RCA plugs and sockets a lot.
For me very good quality at an affordable price. I use the NEUTRIK
parts in most of my builds.
You can spend more and much more money on plugs /sockets -
but is it really better? Can you hear it?

For me most important - good quality.

My opinion.

I go for solid mechanical design. I like most Neutrik plugs and jacks. But their RCA jacks don't seem too great. Audiophile brands like Cardas and WBT are nice but expensive. I wonder if there's any audible improvement over less expensive stuff?

I've never heard of "Chinch"? Is that a brand name?

Thanks. The above one is neutrik and it say it’s their smallest form factor... but says “short female housing”... I assume that’s ok?

That looks good. Just be sure it has your preferred termination such as solder cups. Neutrik web site sometimes has errors where specs don't match pictures.

Markertek sells most popular Neutrik connectors with USA shipping included in the prices.

I have the last batch of the purple PCBs that Wayne had made. There are about 50 stereo sets. I will send a set to anybody interested if you pay shipping.

If interested send me a PM with -

They will fit in a standard envelope so I suspect shipping won't be all that much.
