PRV 5MR450-NDY for FAST/WAW applications

JBL 2235H FAST coming together!

My two Sons and I have assembled the enclosures for the 15” drivers/18” Passive Radiators.
Much work is still needed but the project is underway.
I’m going to try using the round cutouts “PRV NOT in the center of circle but close to the edge” with 3/4 round over slightly elevated from top of enclosure.
We’ll see how they measure and sound!
This stuff is so much fun!

Any known suppliers in uk/europe for this driver? Prv don't bother replying on their fb page :s

Looks like you have to buy from one of the 3 US distributors. Parts Express, being one. To Buy - PRV AUDIO BRAZIL

Or direct via their web store.

I know that there are members in UK who have bought the 5MR450NDY - perhaps they can tell us where they purchased them from?

That would be helpful to hear.
Frustratingly , quite a few products on Amazon u.k , just not the one I want :s

Amazon.co.uk: PRV Audio: Stores

There is eBay too , but somewhat expensive.

Look at this on eBay 2x PRV Audio 5MR450-NDY-4 5" Midrange Neodymium Woofer 4 Ohm 95dB 450W Pro 799928734356 | eBay

There is some cool stuff going on with the 5MR450NDY driver over on Lencoheaven:

Member TransFi over there certainly has some innovative ideas - very nice work!

I think you might find his journer very informative. I love the use of scaffolding rigging for making a baffle-less speaker:

But from what I have read on his reports of the PRV driver - it is his favorite so far as it can replicate live rock concerts and still play jazz ensembles accurately. A very good description.

I think he mentioned that he is paying 2x for his drivers vs what us lucky ones in the US pay for PRV and Dayton drivers. Live in the US if you are on a budget and want to DIY :)
Yup . im facing horrible costs to ship my damaged altec 604's to great plains for repair ( unless i can find a GOOD european reconer who can fit the great plains recone kit correctly ) :s

transfi replied "I ordered mine off Parts-Express and sucked up the charges. Don't know of any EU distributors, but the final price would probably be similar. Worked out similar with UM18's which I bought from Soundimports. EU price = US price + VAT + Shipping + handling charge angry emoji "

no cheap prv 5mr450-ndy options for us european guys then :S

I'm thinking this might be close:

Beyma’s: 92dB at 1w and power handling of 100w AES, 200w program, 17kHz top end

PRV: 94dB at 2.83v power handling 225w 16kHz top end

Moving Mass Of Diaphragm (Mmd)8.07Maximum Linear Excursion (Xmax)2 mm
Surface Area of Cone (Sd)95 cm²

Qts seems higher on PRV and it can handle more power, Sd on PRV is larger also. I don’t think they are identical. They look like they use the same frame though.

I thin the "handles more power" should be taken with a grain of salt.
They have the same diameter voice coile and the magnet mass looks almost as big so the temp will rise in the same way.

Beyma measure with 1W/1M and PRV measures with 2.83v/1m this can make a difference.
impedance will fall at some point around DCR.
the normalised impdance is 8ohm.
if you use DCR wich is 6.9ohms then the power you get is 1.16w. Not the huge difference but still...
And for real comparison we should take the frequence response graphs and put them against eachother.
The quoted sensitive is normalised and some manufacteres get really creative sometimes....

I think these drivers look almost the same.
If there is a difference the PRV would be more robust and a tad more sensitive (bigger SD and heavier cone)

On the other hand the beyma will be more controlled and goes higher in frequency (lower mass, smaller SD and smaller QT)

This difference is not that big
