That’s is de great problem between theoritical guys en practical guys.
Your brain work on automatic what you have learn theoritical ,but is that correct ?
I think that’s more informationis ,but we have not the instrument before.

So you think you can get 10W out of a simple 5V circuit in 4 ohms if you are prepared to 'forget' the theoretical stuff? Just trying to find out what your point is.

Then I said not 10 watt,I said 0.5 watt and then 640 ,ten years ago I make with the 540 with the 240 with 12 accu ,just good reading.

R1 is between 3 and 10 ohms. Assuming the speaker is 4 ohms...

You appear to mean the PE 1956 scheme. You seem to have missed the small print: the speaker is 45 Ohms.

A hasty analysis suggests almost 6V peak-peak or say 2Vrms or 0.088 Watts out. For maybe 0.4 Watts of battery power. 22% efficiency; 25% is the ideal answer when DC is allowed in the load (it usually isn't).

Fretting details: while hi-fi speakers are 95% dead resistance, a "loud" horn has significant acoustic resistance. It may really be 30 Ohms DC and 35-100 Ohms in its (narrow) working range. I started working that out, but it makes little difference.

All-in-all, I bet that was a very lame "megaphone". The acoustic output is not more than a normal voice (much less than the pubic talkers of the pre-PA days), and the directivity little better. It is more like "Oh, WOW! Transistor!!" than a useful speaking aid.

For today's 5V 4 Ohm plan, I get as much as 0.79 Watts out, *if* the MOSFET gate voltage "happens to be right" for an ideal operating point. Whether this could "sound like" 10 Watts is of course a matter of perception. A part-Watt can be impressive, especially for so little parts.

The full article has you fiddling R1 value and also MIC bias 1.5 3 6V, to get "best over-all results". This covers the wide variability of 1956's low-price transistors, and speaker and mike element DC resistance.

I have one question though: how does one get 5v full rail voltage swing across the speaker without effect of circa 4v dropout voltage?
