I might I've found a nice driver. It will need a tweeter up high, but I wanted to try adding a tweeter for a while now... now, I have an excuse!
This is basically the original TABAQ enclosure.
With that low Fs, I was hoping for a little lower reach, but I'll take the extra 5Hz it gives me, and combined to the generous Xmas, this should be fun!

With 89db, looks promising. Subscribed
Thats teasing! Looking forward to more on this. I've got a pair of r100-8s I plan to build a tabaq for, but keeping my eyes open for this.

Don't hesitate, build it. I have the same driver built and like it.🙂
I'm so excited right now, just ordered the parts I need for my first "real" build! The mdf for a folded TABAQ is already cut, and I finally made up my mind and ordered a pair of FaitalPro 3FE25 (I'm a total noob to this, so might aswell start cheap and work my way up, right?). The reviews for this little driver seem very positive, and if I remember correctly XRK recommended these for a TABAQ.
I could only get my hands on 1.4mH core instead of 1.5, and 6.8ohm resistor instead of 6.7 as was Björns recommendations, I hope this small of a difference won't matter.

Thanks!
It will happen, but you will have to be a little patient!
It's Chinese New Year around here, and things are moving quite slow, many shops closing, postal services to a minimum...
As a teaser, to help you wait a bit, here are the pictures of the tweeter and that little 4" woofer I am planning to use. XO will probably be something as simple as a first order capacitor fixed around 10kHz on the tweeter, if real-life measurements look anything like this:

Would this Dayton be good in the Tabaq? Price seems right if nothing else.

Will this work as a way to choose whether to use the BSC or not? It's a very crude drawing but I hope you get the point. I plan on using those cup terminals, so if this works it's just a matter of changing which + cable I connect to the terminal.
An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.
You could also just mount the BSC next to your terminals and have a switch that switches between having it in the circuit or bypassing it.
It will work.
I would keep the filter as you show it and mount a switch short cutting the filter.

Mange tak! 😉
I think there was some discussion on switching the BSC on or off earlier in the thread, I'll have to go back and see what people recommended. I have some small SPDT switches laying around from some old guitar builds that might come in handy, that would also save me the hassle of removing the terminal every time I want to switch 😀
My BSCs are all wired up and hot glued into the little compartment, all I have to do now is to make the holes for the drivers and terminals and test these bad boys out! Did some free air testing with the drivers yesterday, and right out of the box they sound promising! I've never heard Wurlitzer pianos sound that nice

Hi, I am planning to build a third enclosure, this time a tabaq with 3FE25. Can you please share your impressions?
I' ve already made a pair of needles and karlsonators 0,4x which I love, both with visaton frs 8.
My final build will be the 0.53x dual 3fe25, but for now I can pay only for 2 drivers, but I am thinking of a tabaq, since I already own some 12mm mdf and that will keep me busy till next month.
So just 38 € for a pair final cost. How much would a bsc cost, if I add one?

Get the 3f22 instead if you are planning to build a TABAQ. Its Qts is more suited for this MLTL design.

The variants of 3FE22/25. 3FE25s seem to have higher Qts.

Looking at the 8ohm variants, I'd choose the 3FE25 for ability to tune lower. Unless I'm missing something?

The TABAQ seems to like a Qts of about 0.5. Higher doesn't mean better, as for example the TC9 with a Qts of 0.75 has a less satisfying bass than the driver I used which are about 0.5.
But... in this case, I may change my mind between the 3FE22 and the 25.
I don't have access to MJK files, but I have the now defunct LeonardAudio app and it shows the 3FE25 has a slightly better overall output curve than the 3FE22 in the original TABAQ dimensions.
(look for the drivers name at the bottom of the picture)

I've had a pair of W3-871C (not a typo, I know they don't seem to exist anywhere online!) since 2011 & finally got around to building a pair of TABAQ cabinets for them to be used with my new TV. I have to say I am astounded at the full bodied sound & how low they play! I listen to a lot of chill hiphop, beat tapes, etc. & I can happily cast that sort of YouTube video to my TV & listen with no desire for a sub whatsoever.
I live in an apartment without a yard/garage/etc. & I don't own a car, so I couldn't cut the wood myself or drive to a local timber yard to get it cut, so I ordered it online & the wood that arrived was rather shoddily cut - so they're definitely not my best cabinet making!
I would quite like to cover them with some sort of textile, maybe a grey colour with quite a coarse weave/texture. I saw a pair of Needles with a textile cover years ago & knew that I would want to try something similar. What advice can anybody give me for this? What sort of adhesive will work? I have plenty of 3M Spray Mount left over from a different project, but maybe that would be too thin?
Not the prettiest pictures for the TABAQ thread that I've been following for 7 years, but I'm so happy that I finally have my own pair to contribute 🙂
