Not always -- but often a lot of time and money goes into making a recording of a performance which includes its sound. For myself, I want to hear it as intended by the musicians and producer and intended for us to hear it the same way.. No more and no less.
As for designing out any and all distortion is always a challenge to designers to do their best effort.

Ok bimo you got me sold, I am immediately ordering the flights tickets to Indonesia! 🙂
If you have presented your design somewhere on the net I would be happy to have a look at it, any link?
Edit: ok maybe I found your amp, if it is on the Anistardi Wordpress page?
.
The accurate amp is only for commercial, sorry.
But you can find my other design in my blog, in this forum, and a facebook's group. I think they are "good enough" for most people.
Having the "ultimate" amplifier in a context is one thing (auditorium, loudspeaker, etc ...) but came out of this environment and used with other satellites and in other conditions it can also get very bland. When they hear my amplifier than they change their mind 😉

Richard, haw is going over there in Bangkok?

If any one have some matched (mosfets,transistors...) leftovers for CFA100 please let me know 😀 (via PM)
thanks
thanks
This is a really really good design. The distortion is extreamly low --- however, what is most unusual is that the distortion doesn't change much for any reason... at any freq, power output, load Z..... stays low under all contditiions.
At a very low B2 Ohm load, the THD at 1KHz and 200W was still only .0005%

I don't think it should be a good idea to use this amp as a guitar amplifier. Tubes are better for this purpose. This is the point at which one needs to voice the amplifier.
You are on a thread of a designer which did a miracle, reaching one of the lowest distortion number i have seen in this power range, while keeping very high speed (400V/µs).
And here you come, saying "add distortion" ?
A "HIFI" amplifier is NOT a musical instrument. The signal at its output has to be as close as possible to the signal at its input.
And, yes, better will be your system, more you will discover the defects in recordings.
All circuits produce distortion. While the aim is rightly to minimise THD, IMD, etc.the profile can be tailored to make it sound more euphonic. That's all I want to say.
If a design produce distortion high enough to be audible, of course, it is a good idea to try to have-it as agreeable as possible. (pair harmonic dominant).
What can be the audibility of any distortion at < -100dB from the signal in your opinion ?

I want to support that.A "HIFI" amplifier is NOT a musical instrument. The signal at its output has to be as close as possible to the signal at its input.
If you audition a really good amp, it will *not* unpleasently magnify minor shortcommings of a decent recording. Rather, it will tend to integrate all into an enjoyable overall picture. Especially, true neutrality in timbre leads to this perhaps surprising effect. (There are, of course, exceptions.)
In my limited experience, this is true for some totally linear amps with excellent (e.g., 0.001% THD) distortion performance.

I saw your message about a set of populated & tested 200W CFA boards.
Are you aware of any plans for any other (unpopulated) PCB group buys of the latest vintage of your 200W (or 100W) CFA?
Thanks,
mlloyd1

I don't have any board left, but if there interest for 200W or 100W versions I could order some more boards but minimum is 10 boards of the same kind.

Damir:
Thanks for your response.
If I may be so bold, I'll say I like 4 boards of 200W version as my first preference.
But I would also take 4 boards of the 100W version if the interest numbers support that direction.

Richard, why don't you publish a complete set of measurements of this amp in one and unique PDF. For the moment it requires an adventurous navigation between lot of messages in this thread. This is a really really good design. I can start the list:
100W CFA:
mlloyd1 4 boards
200W CFA:
mlloyd1 4 boards
Does the index in post 1 give you what you need?Richard, why don't you publish a complete set of measurements of this amp in one and unique PDF. For the moment it requires an adventurous navigation between lot of messages in this thread.
What is missing from that index?
Please edit the list with your wish.
100W CFA:
mlloyd1 4 boards
200W CFA:
mlloyd1 4 boards
AVWERK 2 boards
trebolo 4 boards
100W CFA:
mlloyd1 4 boards
200W CFA:

As I said, not everything is in one place.Does the index in post 1 give you what you need?
What is missing from that index?
It is a suggestion to Dadod too:
One web page with schematics (and prices), LTSPICE models, BOM (with sources), recommendations (quiescent current tuning, minimal cooler's value etc.) and photos of builds, plus a complete set of measurements, wave forms etc.
Dadod, if you need help to write the web page, I'm your man.
