Cubie3

Hi
Can someone confirm these layouts are correct or not. I plan to etch some PC boards, my friend would love to build these amp. So he ask me etch a pair PC boards.
If someone built and test it one of these boards please let me know
I would love to use the correct layout otherwise it will be a waste.
By the way Prasi what is the actual size of the boards, I found out one is your design.
Thank you very much
Greetings to all :)

Hi Gabor,
The layout you attached is correct except for K170 orientation , it should be rotated by 180deg .

here is the correct layout. if you want i could post pdf and its sch. its not tested.

A member has ordered/ going to produce double sided PCB's with re-inforced high current traces. You could contact him to get a pair for your friend. lot less hassle and a breeze to build with PCB.

Hi Gabor,

I'm the member mentioned by Prasi in his previous post.
Thanks to his precious support, I've just ordered n°10 boards (2 layers, FR4, 1oz/35um Cu) from PCBWay and I should get them within the first week of July. Thanks to the re-inforced high current traces, I could order them with 35um of copper (instead of 70um) and I'm confident they will be fine.

I'll have 2 or 3 pairs available (it depends if one of my friends will use them or not) and I'll sell them at cost (very low!!) plus shipping.

Contact me if you are interested
Nicola

I've just received the set of 10 boards manufactured by Pcbway on the basis of the recent layout of Prasi. Take a look at the attached photo.
They are really well made and georgeously engineered!

My plans are to populate them and make the amp work in September/October and I'll report back my listening impressions.

If anyone is interested I can supply 2 pairs of boards at cost.

In the meanwhile, many thanks to Juma and Prasi for their greaty support to DIY community

Nicola

Hi Juma,

One more question; Can't find these GR type for Q1/Q2, can these be replaced by BL or even BJT transistors without affecting SQ and be done without too many mods (I have a PCB)

I know I'm asking for a lot but your help would be much appreciated.

Thank you
Eric

You can use BL, change R6, R4 to 68-82 ohm. (search this thread for detail, Juma already answered this question.)

Please consider that the cap multiplier circuit from juma also adds to the Sound Quality of the cubie3. For you people in Europe who would want to build a cubie3, maybe touchdown, or someone else in Europe, would be willing to get more boards built and arrange a small group buy there. If so, I will send the gerber files for the cubie3 and cubie3 P.S. (see post 219 and few before it) to you, and tell you how to get the pcb's made. The layout I did will fit on the UMS hole pattern of a 4U Deluxe chassis and the P.S. pcb will fit also. You can even stack the PS pcb's for dual mono if you want. Maybe some will want to use Prasi layout and some use my UMS layout, but consider the cap multiplier too.

Hi Prasi

Have a look at post 1 from this thread, the PSU from Juma is a CM.

Looks like I will need 2 of these CM for my build.

Thanks for making the Gerber of Cubie3 amp section available for free. With PCBway you get 10 PCB for about 20 usd, $2 each pcb...cool

Sorry for my late answer, I've been on vacation!

@Meanman1964, @baggerbole, @Potepuh,

all my boards have gone but you can find the offer of a different version in the "My fist GB" thread of GroupBuy section. The GB is still open ...

@propitious,
thanks for your suggestions about CM power supply but I've already planned to test the amplifier with different PSs (or combination of them), that are, linear CRC, MrEvil/PMI cap mult, SMPS; I've already bought and reserved the boards and SMPS in the past and I'm planning the assembly of all parts together in Autumn.

I'll keep you updated about the results of my testing
