I really will build your amp. It's just that low hanging fruit of 4 actives vs 40 in the case of GW Mk3 presents a "laziness activation potential" for me. But actually I am missing several key components from the Mk3 BOM still.
So, no, this amp has not been compared to your amp yet. So it may fall still. It has no voltage gain though so for high impedance phones, will require a powerful preamp.
I forgot to mention that this is also my very first home made PDF based laser printer iron on transfer PCB. It was simple enough to try a rather watershed event for me. 😀

Ha ha. You might be right - but what I can say is that this amp is the most silent of any amp I have heard. The ability for it to extract low level detail is astonishing. It sounds like it is not there to do anything but boost current. No coloration and super neutral. Even with no regulation on PSU, no cap Mx, nothing but CRC, it is dead silent. Measures 0.0mV at amp output with my Fluke 101.
Dadod's GW Mk3 may knock it off its throne - but what a simple 4 actives with 2 x LU1014D throne that is. (J310 CCS for bias not withstanding).

...it's a +/-65volt rails at about 400w of transformer from a scraped PA amp,
to a pair of sir A.Holton's n-Channel amplifier built on my cnc engraved pcb's with 7225 mosfets. the Caps are 33kuf/70v each, heatsinks are from old pc, fans are temp controled, fuses for protection, custom soft start, latch relay for on of, quite challenging to assemble or someday repair 😀
Hi again 😀 this one i did once i found some smd fets.. it actualy works pretty well on the test bench .. the "n-cnannel amp" with lots of small fets 🙄

..its all cnc machined from 6 and 2.5mm thick aluminum, 6mm Plexiglas and double sided fr4 . the specs are as for +/-40v rails class AB amp . those 20 smd fets equal to about 2 irfp250's . it is as big as a SSD though..

Just built this using my own hand etched boards and PowerPoint layout art. Design is by EUVL from this thread. Single rail supply is nice for portable application and I am using a step up booster (adjustable but set at 17v) to allow running from 5v cell phone charger. Bias current is about 50mA total. Drives my DT880-250's with ease.

It is. Very organized, very symmetrical, every thing a DIYer attempts to achieve. How does it sound? Who knows. I most likely never will. How would those heat sinks perform in class a? Very curious.

Those heatsinks look cool but awful performance wise. They don't follow engineering principles of maximizing surface area vs volume (you need some to conduct heat to the tip of the fin). Fins should not be thick like this - serves more as thermal mass than fin radiator.
