I dont have any crackle or ticks and pops at all. But if I did, I'd digitize the vinyl thing, clean it up with software and play it thru a really good DAC. Or just throw the vinyl away and download an HD mastered digitized version. But thats too extremist for some people, I guess.

Especially if it doesn't exist.
I have had a lot of fun downloading stuff from an Aus site that archives all kinds of earlier Aus vinyl singles/albums found at garage sales, flea markets, charity stores, pawn shops, recycling centres etc etc......mostly no hope of any of these becoming modern releases so no meaningful copyright infringements.
In among the history aspect is the range of quality of transfers, and the range of original recording equipments and range of production values, all individually audible.

If it doesnt exist, I still dont need to keep an old LP of it. Plenty of good music from all around the world to choose from....One could never hear it all in several life times. I gave away my LP collection - didnt sell them -- all away. Many rare and played once LP in the collection. Who cares that much for LP's? Plenty of other great tunes to listen to. I mean, how many times can one hear the same old song without getting bored with it. ??

I remember Benjamin B. Bauer as being responsible, but it appears others were involved as well.

A method has been developed for detecting spurious impulse noise in an audio signal. The discriminant is absence of decay envelope, determined by a comparison of the suspected impulse with the waveform in which it occurs. The method has been applied to a quality-control device for testing records.

1. I can never forgive you for not making me the recipient of the LP's.
2. Every week I check multiple places around town that sell them, and Craigslist. Being on the hunt is a great hobby, and they don't just sit on a shelf once I get them. (I sell off (cheaply) or donate whatever I don't like or isn't on my little list for a collection I want to have)
