Sony vFET Amplifier Part 2

Nice work Jason, and thanks again!

I can't help but think that a donation of some kind to Diyaudio would be a great way of showing appreciation for the efforts being made for us all on a pretty involved group buy...

I might kick that off with $20. Thanks!

Jason has asked me to give a more detailed description of the kit contents. This project has been a colloborative effort of three people in three places, North America, Central America, and Australia! Amazing it ever was finished, but we all are feeling like celebrating now I think!

One Essentials kit consists of:

2 pairs of matched VFETS

2 Black anodized UMS compatible brackets

2 PCBs designed and laid out by Nelson Pass

All the stainless steel bolts, nuts, washers, fender washers and lock washers to mount 2 pairs of metal cased VFETs and 2 pairs of plastic cased MOSFETs (not included) to the bracket, and to attach the brackets to a UMS chassis or your own chassis.

Mica insulators for the MOSFETS and mica insulators and tubular insulators for the VFETs

28g. syringe of thermal grease

The 2X Essentials kit has 2x of all of the above, except still one syringe of thermal grease as that should be plenty, and our supplier didn't have enough in stock for 2. The 2X kit will require more cleverness to use with any given chassis if you're getting it for a double pair per channel as we haven't planned for that, but you will certainly will have plenty of parts to work with! If you're planning to make 2 amps of course it is just bolt together....

I still hope to do the Supplemental Kits but this first order has been a battle. The second Essentials Kit should be a lot easier, so I should be able to get a list of parts and a price proposed for the Supplemental Kit in the next 2 weeks. Some of the transistors might be tricky to get, so we're looking into options. If they are hard to get, so much the better if I can track them down for you! After that it would be 6 to 8 weeks for delivery. Of course our wish was to have them able to be shipped with the Essentials kits but that's out of the question!

I'll keep you informed,

Mark

Thank you very much for the show of appreciation. We've factored our time into the prices, even though it's taken longer and been far more involved than we initially thought. If you want to show some appreciation just keep the store in mind next time you need something 🙂 Thanks 🙂

This is great - thanks so much for all of the work.

Will the 4U chassis provide enough heatsink for a stereo amp?

Will the kit UMS brackets mount equally well on the 4U and 5U chassis?

thanks!

The drill pattern is pretty much the same in the 4U and 5U heatsinks. The 5U have some extra holes not needed for this particular project.

The 4U is enough for this project and has enough heatsink area, but if you live in a hot place with high summer temperatures and have the extra space and cash to get the 5U then by all means get it.
It is a small extra investment in the beginning but will allow for higher dissipation amplifiers in the future!

@Jason
would it be possible to buy additional items from diystore (ACA amp pcb) with this VFET kit (if I ever come from wish list to buy)
So they are shipped together
I will ship to USA.

Thanks

Yes, you can absolutely order more things from the store at the same time - boards, amp camp amp kit, chassis, etc... please do and save on shipping 🙂

Email to group 1 is being sent now (sorry, I forgot I had to write the email - LOL)...
