But keep in mind that these are required if you are planing to use M2 with volume pot directly.
If not you can go without buffer and use the buffer in your pre amp instead

Thank you again, aradan. I was not aware, just ordered it since it was included in the BOM. But I was planning to run it directly with a 10k PEC pot anyway. So all is good.

I think they will be fine, that is what I used for a range. If they run too hot - the Jfets, you could change the 10R source resistors to 15-20R to draw a little less current.

In the oven right now for a pre-amplifier with settable gain and headphone output is the DCG-3 by Salas. It needs a bit of board revisioning for alternate parts and space.
It takes the capacitors out of the picture. A mountable op-amp keeps the offset low once set.
