Then just move along to another post.
Well I suppose the talk about TV resolution is a bit boring...
Well I think marce should call his version ' the GIMP'. Galvanically Isolated Military Proven.
I was gonna go with JitterPlusBug as the extra discontinuities will add jitter....

Timothy Bottoms always makes me think of having it on with Cloris Leachman.
Even 4.5 decades ago, that was not appealing.
I'm not sure acupuncture strictly involves the sense of touch, but it seems a good candidate for any anaesthetic/relaxant/other effect to be phantom, perhaps ?What do you call acupuncture then?
I was on a business trip with a guy who had severe back pain, and, before a busy day of meetings decided to have acupuncture at the hotel - his first time - this was in Tokyo. I was sceptical but curious, and watched the whole thing. Amazingly, it seemed effective, and he seemed fine..........until leaving the hotel and walking down steps of the subway, at which point he collapsed in agony and ended up in hospital.
All interpretations of this are possible, I think. It's possible the entire effect was phantom, until at some point reality kicked in. It's also possible anaesthesia was genuine and wore off, etc etc. For sure he genuinely believed and expected it to work, and it seemed to, at minimum, affect his perception of pain.
In the case of curved screens, there is certainly a tangible, real cause ....the screen is verifiably curved. What vision markets seem to more generally lack, whereas audio products seem to abound, is products which on the face of it seem to lack tangible reason to be perceived differently..............?The curved screen works from what I see which directly led me to buy it.
Fair enough, personally I'm 99% content 1% presentation. Western civilization has little enough left to say, why burden it unnecessarily?
In my case film night requires me to fit 6 (albeit one not watching) in a small room. Everyone is off axis. With a curved screen I can't even attach the calibration spider and, based on the demos in the shops the standard settings are set to wow people.
What I do find interesting is how many critics hit back over the hobbit films (ffs it wasn't a big book, why three films) been done at higher frame rate. clearly people were used to 24fps and didn't want the change to something more 'realistic'. Sound familiar?
I believe the main benefit for curved screens was for large TVs viewed at some distance, and have seen reports and tests where they do improve the things, the viewing distance is more constant from centre to edge of the screen, but it does now seem that it is getting put onto all TVs including 27" models viewed relatively close and the differential in distance is not that great.
On another note Canon have brought out a 50+MPixel DSLR.... and are working on a 250MP sensor (APS-C) for industrial applications... Of course lens quality will be the limiting factor here...

You do not regard accupuncture to be in parallel with spinal block anaesthesia ?
(phantom is a confusing word to pick)

Wow it got slated, with comments such as to realistic... I want to go see it now at the higher frame rate...
An interesting discourse on the problems they faced...

Its been similar with DSLRs and pixel count, with many saying we don't need more pixels for many years, now image results from high pixel count cameras are being praised for their quality (something I totally agree on). If I wasn't a die hard Nikon user I would be drooling over a 5DS R.🙂

Ouch, that's brought back a recent memory.....😀
One thing that has always intrigued me is that FX that look great on the big screen look very fake watched on a standard sized TV. Titanic was a prime example (although never sat through all of it. I knew it sank so why waste 2.5 hours on watching it sink, plus watched 'A night to remember' when about 9 and never the same after).
I have always assumed its related to the fact that film makers go out of their way to keep DoF as shallow as possible to steer what you are looking at. On a wall to wall screen this works well and distracts you from the CG. All messing with your head, which you as the audience willingly accept.

I'm sure that there are tangible ways of interfering with the nerves that transmit pain, and some acupuncture is tangible in effect. However, there are also psychological ways of blocking pain, including perhaps placebo or expectation bias. Just pointing out that it is hard to tell the difference both as a casual observer, and probably as the one experiencing the perception. In this way, it seems a bit like phantom audio perception perhaps ?You do not regard accupuncture to be in parallel with spinal block anaesthesia ?

Phantom : an illusion without material substance - seems the right term to me.
Acupuncture probably has a tangible basis in many cases, IMO. But this guy had needles stuck in places it is difficult to forsee were likely to influence his back pain, and not many that were...........😉 One might rationalise it as us simply 'not understanding' or involving the unkown, then one starts to see even more of the parallels with audio perception and reality I think.
Bigger is better and more realistic, I believe also how much of your field of view is filled with the image helps the illusion. Watching invaders from space, when you can see with your peripheral vision "the wife in the kitchen, not a movie buff, laughing at your 23" TV"...
Bigger is better and more realistic.
Telling wife this can backfire!

One thought is; people brought up with acupuncture will have a greater belief in its effectiveness so it works better on them, similar to the western worlds dislike of insects, passed down from parents to their kids.

An area I am also avoiding at the moment😀😀😀
Just went to local Bangkok store for condo loft bedroom TV. ... saw that LG also is using the curved screen for their smart SOTA OLED display (4 color). Get it while you can.

Nah I'll stick with my 37" flourescent backlit for now. I actually had to replace the panel on that after a bust up with a GF ended with her putting the fire poker through it. Found a sony panel that fitted on ebay for £30. The joy of there only being a couple of LCD panel manufacturers left. 🙂

well mine is getting broody again already!
Way way beyond that, thank god, just got the 10 grandkids to pester us occasionally, its just pure entertainment for me now, or will be soon....
I'd have a standard OLED over a 4K at the moment, just love the image quality, darker blacks, whiter whites.... I'll see if local shop has any 4K OLED TVs when I take the beloved shopping tonight...
I will rent the family out, guaranteed to remove all broody thoughts...
