Start to play music with Shiga around a month after received it and before I was using 47 labs cd player. Feel the Shiga absorb the information from CD much more. Great
Just connected with external clock last night, the music now is much more clear and musical.
The most difficult is to remove the original clock and solder the cable to the pad. It takes me around 3 hours.... I am still a new DIYer...

new shiga is born
Kit received two days ago and was put together successful, running without any issue.
The only thing that gave me trouble was to change pinout and accommodate the cable to fit older Sanyo mechanism. I had to pull those pins out and exchange them what was quite difficult because some were broken and had to fix them.
Finally shiga black stood beside his brother shiga EZ and was ready to answer the question that troubled me all this time : is it or not better than shiga EZ ?
The answer is YES. From the first sound I understood that YES.
I don't want to go into detail how one player sound over another, the only thing I want to say that shiga black sounded PROPERLY , i mean nothing MORE or nothing LESS , it sounded just RIGHT .
This is not about how it SOUNDS this is about how it FEELS .
With all mods that my shiga EZ have (C8-Mundorf Evo Gold-Oil , Blackgates , Oscons , Burson clock, Burson regulator 5V . laser mods , etc ..) he never gave me this feeling . Never , no matter what mod i would have done. Exchanging capacitors ( tons of them ) , regulators , diodes , mechanics , lasers , russian teflons ,etc... Hundred times open, remove, loosen, exchange, put it back, the moment before pressing the start button (the butterflies in stomach feeling), joy or disappointment that this IS or NOT what you need, all this means searches of the desired SOUND, shiga black shattered all this things and gave me the RIGHT FEELING .
Just amazing.
Yesterday i did a first set of changes: exchange the on board capacitors to oscons , tantals and 47uf BG-PK (C10-11-13-19-27-43-48-51-52) plus the laser mod . No yet C8 and R48-49 . Stock clock crystal .
The sound is gorgeous . Just perfect . I am so pleased with the sound that I would not need further change now.
Or maybe yes ))
Enough for now.
Go to rediscover my records ...
That said I want to thank Tibi for this wonderful project and for all his support.
Tibi mersi mult.

Hi nbivol,
It seems so much fun and enjoyable. It is so happy to see people with a pair of skilful hands. I saw you are using EI transformer in your posted photo. I think it should be 10v---0---10v, right? I think it do not give much noise to the circuit, have you also try the R-core transformer for the Shiga??
I am prepared to order the z foil for R48, R49 and R60. After removal of the clock, I don't have much confidence to remove other components.... But I think I will do it finally....
By the way, Tibi, may I know the value of R48,49 and 60 for my further ordering with thanks?
Thanks

hi comickitkit,
that's Hammond IE transformer dual 12v 48VA from previous JVC Shiga project.
I once tried a R-core transformer but I found it sounding somewhat thin .
2 x 12Vac may overheat 7808 regulator. I suggest you to look for a larger heatsink.
Regards,
Tibi

Thank you Tibi,
Problem solved, with new heat sink temperature is 57-65C degrees .Hope it's OK now. According to lm7808 manual operating temperature is up to +125C ?

Hi all,
Progress is slow, but steady.
I made a new platform since i don't need the gears.
Also made it bigger to make it more stable.
Finished the anti vibration feet, the are spot on size.
made the housing for the belts and the motors, they have rubber decoupling feet.
I hope to make the new shafts and bearing housings this weekend, then i can try if it works.
This really takes a up lot of time, aside from all the research, but thats the hobby i guess.
regards,
John

You need to press "cd door" button after each cd exchange. This will initiate TOC (Table Of Contents) reading. Of course this is not needed when you keep listen same cd.
At power up TOC reading is initiated automatically. There is no need to press "cd door" button.

Tibi
