Got a call from our church this morning. Sunday service is cancelled due to unsafe road conditions.
Damn cold last night, -25C, ice on the inside of the thermal panes, which are against the NW walls. eek might have to step up to triple pane windows, as the cheap Alcan vinyl 2-plane just don't cut it at -20C, okay at -10C.
Oil tank is almost empty, good thing oil is reduced, I think the bill will be around $700, last year a fill up topped $1K.
Stay warm northerner's !!

Absolutely everything around here is closed, there was a huge list of churches, schools and colleges that were going to be closed today.
No driving ban in effect this time, but the roads are pretty bad as you can imagine. The MBTA is completely shut down as planned.
We got at least another foot and due to wind during the night had some significant drifting.
Wind was much less than expected, and because it is so cold the snow once again was pretty light and fluffy. The wind is actually picking up now, I was lucky that it was relatively still while I was outside because it is cold. (18 degrees F/ -8 degrees C)
No power failures so far..
This brings us fairly close to seven feet (over 2 meters) of snow in less than 30 days, record breaking on several levels.
We're expecting yet another storm Tuesday/Wednesday of this week.
I've finished clean up for the day, here are some more pictures.
All very dystopian.. 😛

Only had to walk a couple hundred yards from the car to the event but it nearly froze my head at -20C .......
Kevin, break out a topographical map ASAP & be prepared....typically, that much snow that fast will wind up melting just as fast.
Same thing happened in 1996 in my hometown of Portland Oregon, lots of snow very quickly, just as quickly followed by a "warm" rain. The whole of downtown had river levels crest the 'seawall' in the very heart of the city. It was quite the disaster. If the temps drop gradually you'll all be OK, but if they go above freezing & stay there...or go higher...you guys could really be in for it...far worse than the gentle but lots of snow. Can anyone say Snow-Machine?(Snowmobile)? You all could be saying Canoe very shortly...

Hi Richard,
The only really unusual thing about the snow is the quantity, it is pretty unlikely that we will have a very significant warm snap for at least another four to six weeks, and it has been much colder this winter than is typically the case as well. We actually haven't had a day above freezing in the past month or so that I can remember. There is more coming this week.. lol Not quite sure where I will put it...
Typically the snow all melts by the end of April regardless of the preceding winter weather. I expect/hope things will moderate in March.. We have had major blizzards in May, and I have seen snow/sleet in July here! (For about 5 minutes..lol)

What I used to hate about Cambridge, MA was the spring thaw, when all sorts of noxious treasures were revealed (mostly dogdoo) that were concealed by the built-up ice on the sidewalks.

In most nerdly fashion we called them delta-sigmas.
Clean up after your doggie laws have taken care of that little issue long since.. Still it can be surprising what you find as the snow melts locally, in one case a long lost car.. lol
February is getting on my last nerve. It has been cold and snowy and icy. Snow removal has been worse than usual, streets full of loose snow and lined with ice. I fell on ice and sprained my knee. Then hit a pot hole which destroyed a $200 tire, which meant 2 new tires. Yesterday was cold and snowy, overnight snow changed to freezing rain, by noon it was +6 and raining, extensive flooding, by 3:00PM it was -6 and everything covered in ice, supposed to snow overnight. I need out of here!
I assume Halifax is having at least some of the same fun we are getting here in Boston?
It is currently -15 degrees C here just south of Boston and windchill brings it down to -26 C..

According to the long term residents the snow fall this winter is above average, but there is little accumulation. I watched about 2 inches worth of snow disappear over the course of today. It evaporates directly as snow, without producing any water. We have a second floor patio which is wood. Today the sun was shining all day, there was a wind of about 10 MPH on the patio, with gusts to 30 MPH. This morning there was about 2.5 inches on the table, now there is about 1/2 inch. The patio floor is a bit deeper.
The locals also state that this winter has brought the lowest temperatures that anyone can remember. I have been here for 2 to 3 weeks every winter for 20 years. I have never seen below zero temps.....the HIGH for today was 4F, about -15C. It is currently -2F, -19C.
Our next surprise is expected on Monday night / Tuesday. 4 to 6 inches......and more cold.
We had two freak days in the 50's....other than those, I look forward to 20 something degree days.

Were calling for around 7" of snow.
Temps have continued to be below average.
Lowest I've ever seen here was -10F in january 1981 or 1982.
This week is calling for sub zero temps, in February!
I'm ready for spirng.
