I have not tried printing component labels yet, but it looks like toner transfer using flat iron???
toner transfer,he has found out what temperature is the best to do it. if the iron is too hot that the paper will stick to a pcb and labels will be brittle and fragile. if the iron is not warm enough than paper will not stick to a pcb but neither will labels.
it depends for each iron and it must be adjusted with practic work. it depends from thickness of paper used for printing,thickness of toner on paper and than on temperature.
the easiest way is to use the laminator (if that is the word in english) ,a device that is being used to make a visit-cards. slide a pcb with toner-transfer paper through it 10-15 times and you will get similar results.

You've likely seen this site but if not there's a lot of good hints here. The toner reactive foil helps with porous toner too. Much better finished product.
