On the Breeze 2.1 I found that the middle pot changes the slope of the low pass filter for the sub (...)
Thanks for your explanation, xrk971.
Ok, so it won't be perfect as well with the Breeze but at least this seems to be better than getting everything up to 5600Hz from the sub.
I need a 2.1 solution for a little TableTop project, so I think I'll give the Breeze a try.
And yes, I read about the poor build quality, I'll be prepared 😉. The board I own now is built quite lousy, too. The Volume pot is everything but well alingned and the backside provides an impressive collection of probably each and every operative's fingerprint across the solder resist.
...nice parts like a Nichicon
It isn't a bipolar Nichicon, but which other Nichicon is green? Hiamplifier showed a picture too befor but never responded. Yellow amp has green capacitors too, sometimes labeled as Sanyo's, those are not Sanyo's.
I left ampboard powered 24 hours for a couple of days and playing music during daytime🙂 6 Oscons did improve. Maybe you put Oscon sound better into English than I do 🙂 6 Nichicon FP RNU are quite a different solid, more detail and better dynamics everywhere, and no sibilance or harshness heard, but that really amazed me, because mid/highs have so much more energy it is asking for trouble I thought LOL 6 Chemicon PSG 390uF solids are in between Oscons and FP RNU's, so less energy treble than Nichicons but a little harshness, sibilance is added. Somehow Nichicon avoided that. Both these 2 others also need quite some time. I think it could be shortened if rated voltage is applied for an hour or so befor use like datasheets suggest to get leakage down to already very high datasheet values (compared to wet electrolytics), at least if it is related??? I used 12V PSU these comparisons.
Irribeo can you post what Nichicon caps do you mean. Some urls...

Yes I have those rnu1e3311mdn1ph

I didn't use any of their original cap, they looks like Pana FM or FC but I replaced them with 6 Rubycon, 2 Panan SEPF and added 2 Sanyo Oscon parallel 2 wima close to the chip.

I noticed that. What kind of Nichicon is the green one on the 2.1 board?

Looks like Nichicon PW but I won't bet on that.
Nichicon PW 4700UF 35V
What values are the WIMA you put close to the chip? MKS2 ?I didn't use any of their original cap, they looks like Pana FM or FC but I replaced them with 6 Rubycon, 2 Panan SEPF and added 2 Sanyo Oscon parallel 2 wima close to the chip.
Im guessing it is a fake of some sortI noticed that. What kind of Nichicon is the green one on the 2.1 board?
Yep, usually Nichicon PW is purpl'ish brown (aubergine-like for veggies) and 18*40 for this value according to datasheet

when it comes to CAP, I buy them from element14/Mouser and RS except for blackgate and Sanyo oscon (NOS) which there are 2 stores in HK that I knew them for over 30 years.
Cool! Do you notice any difference, is it significant?
I made a one step jump of putting the both oscon and the 0.01 in at the same time so not sure if there is any different with and without them.
What kind of Nichicon is the green one on the 2.1 board?
It just says 35V 4700µF..
Edit: So Syklab's link to these seems to be right.

TPA3116 on a "serious" audio event 🙂
Last weekend I participated as an exhibitor on the largest national audio/video show in Croatia - the "AV show Zagreb 2014". I was invited as a member of the local DIY community to show my RasPi server plus some other goodies: this was also an opportunity to show the little TPA3116 to a more "serious" audience 🙂
Anyway, the TPA3116 (the "HIFI" version) was connected to a pair of nice DIY speakers (with Visatone drivers), and had a laptop + Monica DAC as the sound source.
The impressions were rather favourable. Most of the poeple who heard it didn't realize that they were listening to the pocket-sized little box: they thought the sound was coming from the "monsters" on the left side of the table.
Try to play "Where's Waldo?" with the picture below: see if you can spot the little TPA3116 in the attached picture 🙂
- well, it's a tiny picture, so it's not easy...
In short, the impressions are favourable. I had some other tiny components on show, and the reactions were overwhelmingly positive - at least as regards the appearance, although the TPA3116 sound didn't get any serious criticism.
(NOTE: photo taken from the local forum: I didn't have a camera with me, and the phone pictures were awful...)

What modifications (if any) did you make to the tpa3116 amp, I've been modding it lately and I don't think I can listen to the stock amp ever again [emoji1]
I think this board is also produced by the same place. I bought mine from them too.
2.0 HIFI TPA3116
2.1 TPA3116D2
They all have something funny, like the designer had a little too much wine and forgot he needed 4 bootstraps on the yellow, Original breeze 2.1 mounted too large inductors. Same designer did this 5.1 amp and really funny too, they say the Texas Instruments chip has an STmicro core and look at the inductors, damn I have too little room again, lets put in 2 fake TDK's in between the toroids. Look at left side heatsink LOL you mean heatsink was meant for the tpa3116, damn forgot about that LOLOL this designer is funny LOL also say board has nice Sanyo's on Taobao and then put green fake Nichicons on the amp you photograph , damn I ordered fake Sanyo's LOLOL

Well, practically no mods whatsoever: even in its stock form the "HIFI" version (comes with the enclosure) sounds quite nice... at least good enough for me. If I come across some OScons and such, I might try some mods, just for the fun of it...
Just received this 2.1 board from ebay, which looks similar to the one used by Breeze Audio..
An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.
Compared to a sure 3116 the build quality is rather low but it features some nice parts like a
Nichicon cap and a single screwed on heatsink.
Unfortunately the advertised Sub frequency regulation (80-500Hz) actually turns out to be a Sub Volume.
The sub plays frequencies up to 5600kHz which makes the whole amp imo kind of useless as 2.1 device.
The breeze 2.1 has sub freq. regulation, doesn't it?!
Am I doing something wrong or should I leave that board and go for the enclosured breeze instead?
This is the exact reason I bought the FeiXiang 2.1, it has a separate XO (most left knob in photo). I posted about it earlier, before the thread started talking about PSUs again. Once I receive it I will take a closer look at review mods if any. Danzz has been super helpful so far over PM, as bought one of these boards too but hasn't given it a spin yet.

They soldered the bootstraps cap at the bottom of the 2.0 board and might done the samething on the 2.1 as well.
