TH-18 Flat to 35hz! (Xoc1's design)

"wheeze" is Art's term, he tried another driver with low motor force, the Kappalite 3015LF

The sound seems compressed or restricted, no balls :D
Dan,

I don't recall using the word "wheeze" in describing the effects of low motor force, and have not actually tried the 3015LF.

In describing the sound of the Keystone I wrote: "The very stiff cones of the Lab 12 and the B&C18SW125-4 can take (that) stress and sound clean, when pushed hard the 4015LF (and probably the lighter 3015LF even more) sounds a bit distressed." The "probability" was speculation after looking at a distortion test JBell performed on his SS15 using 3015LF.

By "distressed", I meant distorted, as in well over 10% harmonic distortion at relatively low drive levels, bad enough I didn't bother measuring the distortion when pushed hard.

Hi Art,
My mistake, I dunno why that stuck in my head.

I have done some testing with a CR variation in the TH18 and different drivers. The weaker drivers definitely have a constrained sound even at low levels when the motor force is low.

Making me doubt my memory, I don't need any help with that Art!
Apparently the following was about the 4015, another with lowish motor force BL²/Re...
Almost everything is WEAK when compared to the 18SW115

Subjectively, with the same drive level the Keystone using the B&C18 seems a bit more “punchy”, more stuff falling off shelves in the shop, and more feel in the feet of the sidewalk vibrating outside. It takes full power from a bridged Crest CC2800 effortlessly, while the 15 seemed a bit “wheezy” at a lower drive level, the 2x12 in between.

lol... its far from perfect, I had to pull the front panel about 3/8 of an inch in when attaching side 2 (got off square). THankfully clamps helped me do that.

The braces are me, a handful of explitives and a compount mitre saw lol. as you can see I broke that back brace into 2 pieces (2nd piece not pictured) to make the cuts easier.
