Unlock problem

Dear Group buyers!

Has anybody experienced a strange unlock issue with the dac:
At startup screen changes all the possible formats, says "no lock" after and delivers a loud hiss to the loudspeakers?

After this it does not lock to any input.

Please see the attached video.

How can this be fixed?

My amonero is powered from Dac board and has local regulator removed. All the PS voltages are in place.

Thanks!

Daniil

Just guessing, but I understand by your message that you're 'feeding' the DAC only from the Amanero-USB input and not from the coaxial, optical or AESBU. ?.
If this is so, you might try also any of these other inputs, to see if they work ( for instance the coaxial input feed from the digital output of a CD/DVD player). If the DAC locks and works fine with a non USB input, then the culprit will be probably the Amanero board.

I have experienced a similar problems twice since I have the DAC. It seemed to occur after playing music for a few hours using the USB input. (I always use the USB input, never spdif or AES/EBU)

Mine doesn't unlock like yours, but I do recognize the rapidly switching between PCM44.1 and DSD96 on the display. It does cause some dropouts when this happens, but only a few every 5 minutes or so. When I switch to spdif the DAC locks perfectly to the signal of my CD-PRO2. Switching back to the USB input bring back the problem. The problem disappears completely when I restart the DAC.

To me it looks like there is nothing wrong with the DAC. The problems are in my opinion most likely to be caused by the Amanero. Perhaps using other drivers will save the problem or upgrading the Amanero with other firmware.

I don't know the DAC controller firmware, so I can't know what's causing the rapidly switching between PCM44.1 and DSD96 on the display. I can only guess what's happening.

@ audiodesign and/or Quanghao
Can you perhaps try to explain what might be causing this problem? I'd like to hear your vision on the problem.

For me it occurs at every start up of the dac, even when usb cable is not plugged in.
In the same time dac locks to coax after switching it on and off. After half an hour playing spdif I can lock to usb again.
Thus every time before listening to usb I need to play spdif for 30 minutes and it is pretty inconvenient.
I had 2 modules from the previous GB and never experienced such kind of issue.

I just received my DAC and set it up. I am using USB from a laptop running JRiver. I configured the JRiver options as shown on the AudioDesign site (the screens don't match up exactly), however, I cannot get DSD to play properly after trying a bunch of different settings. It skips/stutters. PCM works fine over USB.

I am able to play DSD from JRiver just fine using my Buffalo II with an Amanero board.

I'm thinking about ordering an assembled working DAC in the next order round but note there have been some problems with some of the DAC's shipped out.
Quanghao - can I please confirm that an assembled DAC has been thoroughly checked and working for all input sources before being shipped out?

Unlock problem

Andrea, Quanghao!

Yesterday I tried to change amonero module (I have a spare one) and it didn't resolve the problem.
I need to turn the dac on and off 5 or 6 times to lock to any source and dac may unlock after.
I'm using 2 dacs from previous GB in similar set up and they work flawlessly.

Could you advise what to do to fix the problem?

Thanks!

Hi
I had a similar issue and that was bad connection in jumper 7 or 9.
I did fix it by solder the jumper pins together

Hi all,
fortunately i don't have these problems.

But i have one problem, as mentioned in a post before, namely the optical connection from my (not cheap) Sony-TV. I can't hear from this source, because there is a regularly unlock every ca. 25 seconds. But with all other connections it works good. I didn't try DSD.

I don't think so, but perhaps your problems have to do with the mains switch. After a few on-offs it has gone and i replaced it with a "Schurter KFB2 4302.5314". Now it's fine and has additional filtering.

ps.: Although i think it is not a good thing to propagate a certain music because the taste of music of everyone is so different i will dare to suggest a webradio which i find is very contemporary and the sound quality on most pieces is astonishingly good even it is mp3.

For the jazzfans here try:

Caad,
I've changed all the jumpers and checked connection with a multimeter - every power supply line has good continuity.
But the problem stays the same: I can't lock to usb. Today after 8 times switching dac on and off I finally managed to get the music out of it but the screen says "no lock" and volume is not changing.
After this strange iterations of all the formats on the screen dac goes to some wierd state and does not change volume or input.
I can lock only to coax
Maybe Quanghao could help me?
