Good to see you back Erik 🙂
Tibi any suggestions on a higher quality cap for the laser mod? I can't stop grinning at that vishay every time I put a CD on my player 🙂
BTW I just received the russian mica capacitors. I will try them on C11 eventually, but currently I am trying some other stuff too, so I will have to wait to give them a fair chance against the already very nice Cornel Dubillier.

hi Tibi,
How much voltage passes through cap c19? I have a blackgate nx 47uf 6.3 volts on hand.
thanks

Hi Tibi,
That sounds like a very nice modification. I will give this a try and post my results...I promise not to go for Duelund 😀
Thanks Again for the research.😉

Erik

So far I have tested:
Arcotronics PET - very good bass extension, very musical
Wima PET - good bass, but not as Arco
CD silver-mica 1nF - the best so far
0.1uF tantalum - good resolution but dry

Under 5V, but NX is bipolar with high ESR/ESL.
Tantalum you got with the kit is far better than NX
If you want BG, than look for PK or even better C series.

So 1nF works too? that s good news. I got some russians, but no way they are fitting in there... I think I have a CD too, but no idea where it is... Plus it is too thick for the sanyo mecha... It will touch the plastic frame when the sled is in the end of the disc. Unless I scrape some material
Hi TiBi ,
The layout for LA6541 in Mark II is different , not sure need to add heatsink same as Mark I ?😕
thanks

1nF 100V silver-mica will fit.
I have to run a FFT and see exactly noise spectrum.
My feel is the manufacturer have dropped a "safety" cap over laser ... and there are 2 more X5R who are annoying me a lot.

how about the normal backgate ?

I already mentioned that in Shiga MKII LA6541 do not need a heat-sink. Pcb area under LA6541 was calculated to ensure excellent heat dissipation.

There are several BG series, on which are you referring too ?
Each BG series was designed for a specific application. You can not just put a BG because is a BG, you need to select correct BG series according to your application.

Those two are soldered on the plastic ribbn cable for the sanyo mecha... so unless I find a way to solder them elsewhere as filter of the filter, that one is not going to happen for me... 🙁
1nF 100V silver-mica will fit.
Those would be ok, but 8 euros... damn...

I refering to blackgate STD .

I'm not sure if there is enough room for STD, unless you get one at low voltage.

Pk, Fk or Std better ?
The best will be a C type, with PK on second place.

I was wondering.....
Tibi did you try to leave a replacement cap out alltogether
So only remove the original and listen without ......?

I already did this and sound degradation is very audible. Beside this, unit lost track on my low beta scratched CD test.
Without cap entire optical unit may be affected by RF noise.
Today I have tested Vishay MKP 1837. I like it a lot. Same deepness like Arco and resolution very close to CD silver-mica. So far the best match.
