I wanna know if can go active for the 3er way woofer, I own this active filter:
http://www.reckhorn.net/pages/active-x- ... ssover.php
Isnt modified for high voltage output, the question is: ¿Could I use it for the woofer SB Acoustic?
Also I have a couple of pcbs from a GB diyAudio "My Ref Fremen Edition"
http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/chip-amp ... ation.html
First to make the two ampli I want to know if can be enough power for the SB Acoustic woofers?

Hi guys,...woofer SB Acoustic?

Try to give here some feedback because I'm not so sure of active systems to help merlin el mago. I'm more used to the passive crossovers.
merlin el mago,
To help everybody with your long thread, give here:
- The power (RMS) for your amps you are planning to use, LF and HF.
- Direct links for your drivers or references and type of speaker/size (or post#).
- Direct link for your HF crossover you are using (or post#).
Many thanks Inductor.
Power RMS for HF are two mono-blocks Erno Borbely Millenium 75WRMS class A, for LF I want to know if I can use http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/chip-amps/197120-my_ref-fremen-edition-need-help-pcb-evaluation.html
Attached drivers datasheets:
Seas Millenium TCF002
ScanSpeak 18W-8545-00
SB Acoustic SB Acoustics SB23NRXS45-8
Attached passive 2way Xover used for HF: Seas Millenium TCF002 & ScanSpeak 18W-8545-00.
TIA.

I only need advice to know if My Ref. Fremen Edition power amps can be enough power for the SB Acoustic SB Acoustics SB23NRXS45-8 and also if the active Xover http://www.reckhorn.net/pages/active-x-%20...%20ssover.php is ok for the LF Xover for the SB Acoustic SB Acoustics SB23NRXS45-8? If yes after will speak about the cabinet if it's better or not better BR or closed, etec.
The 2 ways & the power amps for the 2way is ok as is.
The 2 ways & the power amps for the 2way is ok as is.
SB Acoustics SB23NRXS45-8 driver would need >40W RMS minimum in a reflex (driver is 60W RMS) to cover <65W RMS for the SS 18W/8545-00 also in a reflex (driver is 100W RMS).
I don't know the power RMS for the "My Ref. Fremen Edition power amps". 🙂

The problem with SB Acoustics SB23NRXS45-8 driver in sealed enclosure (50L), besides LF extension, is that for the Xmax 6.5mm you have 10W RMS only and a lower SPL output, lower than 98dB/speaker (for the same theoretic ~105dB in the main satellites).
yes it‘s a bit short for bass or midrange duties unless you are using equalizer to compensate lack of amp power , some people might say its only few db difference , but when you want to listen loud it too short
40w it´s ok when using high sensivity woofers not 88-91 db woofers

use minidsp as xover with 150w amp for bass 85-800hz
with alcone 100wrms woofers , 150 w amp for mids , and 12w tweeter amp(tube)
even with a 60w woofer i think you need some headroom on amp power , maybe that 75w amp with be a better choice
dont know how many volt your active xover will deliver to your amps , on minidsp i had to set it to 2v , the default 0.9v wouldnt do

That's about what the woofers SB Acoustics SB23NRXS45-8 are going to use per channel (if two drivers) if in a reflex enclosure. That's my modest opinion and I already mentioned that in post#385. 🙂My Ref. Power amps have 40W @ 8 ohms.
The (2) mono-blocks Erno Borbely Millenium 75WRMS class A (I'm not acknowledge in this amps) are also enough for a full range 3-way with the same drivers. 🙂
i think its a waste of power to use the 40w amp for bass and the 75w for mid/highs , should be the opposite
wether its active or passive, you still need to perform decent measurements and simulated it.
good target response and good phase behaviour should be your goal.
the sb23 wont play loud comfortably, i would suggest use 2 and tune very low, fb around 27-30hz in a large box 130-150L. even though you prob get better result with sb34nrx in sealed 100-130l
hope that helps

for the same price of the sb you can get woofers like alcone that will behave much better when pushed hard , but the op seems fixated on the sb
Why this aim "to play loud" ?
And please define "loud".
I was playing some records yesterday with my 40 Wpc and it was "loud"
Same the other day, different amp & speakers, same power, and it was (outraugeously)
loud.
Of course, the amplifier falls into distortion realm much before the speakers...

you have answered your own question partialy.
the op is using 90db speakers , with a 40w amp it wont do.

It counts if you are playing Donna Summer and not Scarlatti
😎
You don't want a piano or claviert to sound bigger than in reality ...

i had a technics 45W amp with jbl 90db speakers , i played the thing so loud , it got so hot you could hardly touch the case near the supply , but it still lives in my sister´s home and plays fine.
so i think the op will regret is choice of bass driver and amp when he wants to listen at loud volumes.
