I have moved all my CD's to hard drive, gets rid of a lot of these problems.

Saying not for joke, Yuri Makarov was playing with Mark Levinson CD transport and DAC, and reported listenable improvements up to 160kg of total load over CD cabinets.
Of course, he also did his best in inter-cabinets anti-vibration measures.
Lifting up and putting down 30kg weight over CD transport is his routine everyday exercises during listening. At the same time, no any computer-based source can approach CD sound quality, he tested dozens of them.

The load is to be moved only for changing CD disk, the transport is with upper CD placement.
The problem is that CDP focus/tracking coil servo driver stages pull big currents when encountering scratched/damaged/fingerprinted discs, and strong vibrations of the player mechanism (acoustic feedback).
With typical consumer players this (erratic) PSU load modulation affects the DSP and DA stages through power supply/earth interactions.
Acoustic feedback can turn a pretty good sounding CDP into a sorry mess.
One day I will try to measure it.
The valve springs/kitchen stone suggestion is one born of zero cost....recycled objects.
Yes, the mass/spring ratio needs to be tuned, and damping of the springs themselves also.
The heavier and 'dumber' the whole system component support system and individual system components, so much the better.

IF the issue is PSU load modulation effects, it would seem that decoupling the power supplies would be the more direct approach.
Sorry I have to disagree with that, hard drive based WAV or FLAC is going to sound better than CD, given that you remove the mechanical interface, isolate the PC by using wireless or some other form of galvanic isolation to remove PC supply noise if it worries.

Yes...positive, what is the main source of errors...reading the CD remove the mechanical interface and you are just moving data around...
Just looking at that set up is similar to some other solutions that people on here use, not well engineered or thought out, overkill in fact.
Why are CD players better than hard drive (or SSD) based media, cant wait to hear the explanation and the data...

Its vibration control, again like static plenty of info out there, ever thought how they make communications in a tank understandable?
Of course moving the CD player away from the cause of the vibration may be a better solution, but as pointed out this is vibration that cant be measured only heard...

Are you sure of that, me tinks you need to do the comparision again. 2 yrs ago i would have agreed with you , but this has not held up with back to back comparisions when it comes to CD's. Pc base music only moves ahead when listening to very hi-res playback not direct comparision with CD's. We have done the comparisons at least 20 times over the last 2 yrs and i still stand by this until i hear better ...
PS: The pc guys got new stuff again , we will see next weekend ... 🙂

You do know that even with PC's they sound different, yep you should check that out with your anecdotal filter on/off .....

It data, you either read it from a hard disc and buffer it into memory, or you try and read it of a moving compact disc almost in real time...then you transport the data to a DAC...
I presume these listening tests were done sighted...And the same DAC was used for both sources...
Of course as long as the data gets to the DAC intact (ie bit perfect) there will be no difference is the resultant sound...FACT (let us presume that noise issues!!!! have been catered for.)

The trouble is that there are so many variables in play - I tend to favour the music server approach, purely on the grounds that it should be easier to better isolate interference. We are not like the great one, we actually do the comparisons and not in a vacuum. PC's sound different , there is good , better, best . Software used is important too, DAC, cabling , powercord, etc.
We are not getting together to fool ourselves, sighted or not , when you spend thousands on a piece and admit it's bettered , its because it was. A few years ago i got out of expensive digital CD PLAYERS because i was heading the PC way . I can tell you it has not been proven to better CD player playing CD's as of today, at least not in our circle, not in the listening sessions i have been privy to.
Alas their is new stuff on the horizon, upgraded everything with new software and big talk , we will see this weekend ..

24 bits from PC? SW resampling? Both may produce (produces) better sound than a CD player.

I was hoping that some sensible information regarding how bad vibration in domestic listening environments was, as my only real experience with audio and vibration is vehicle communication systems, where vibration levels are high, and where SMD components are preferred because they tend to stay on the board, have low mass and tend not to be affected by vibration that much, even MLCC X7Rs (decoupling obviously).
At the moment I am not using my record deck due to an unfortunate attack on my tone arm by one of my lovely cats!!! Now 160kg weight may have helped in this instance...

Seems that 160kg may just get to the load limits of the metal enclosure, it would be one of those U-tube videos with a squashed CD player after adding the last brick. Now if you are really that crazy why not just build a vacuum chamber and mount your cd player inside suspended on wire, vibrate that. Now finding a vacuum pump that didn't make noise may be a problem, I've yet to hear one that wouldn't be worse than just playing the damned cd player by itself. Just put your electronics in a separate room if the in-room vibration is that big a problem.
And yes I have gotten a TT to do some nasty things with low bass, but that was at stupid sound levels anyway, the neighbors were on the phone complaining about the bass bleed into their house!
