Has anyone got any ideas for BLACK filler ?
I'm thinking along the lines of Fine Sawdust + PVA + Black Ink.
If your using 'bondo' filler, you might well be able to get polyester resin tint in black and mix it in.
Ink will change color over time as it is subjected to light. There are specialist wood fillers and a good hardware store can advise. Alternatively, see if there is a furniture restore specialist nearby and see if they can recommend something.
I'll check what I used on my oak cabinets - although I didn't stain the color on those, I'm sure the company will make one for black oak/ash.

Well the Danish Oil is going well.
One question. Even though I have been wiping off the excess oil after each application, every time I brush past the speaker, I get black off it ?
I thought this stuff was supposed to seal itself.

It gets a good 23 hours between coats, I do one one evening then leave it until the following day before the next.
It's quite difficult to capture the finish of these but I'm quite pleased. They are Black Oak.
Thet're looking good - when are you going to get them working?
KatieandDad,
how can you be sure that 3inch dome midrange will
perform well crossed at 400 Hz ?
Don't see the specs on Volt site or Atc.
What about suppressing standing waves from inside?
Haven't read the thread from beginning so I may be
asking wrong questions.

I found this http://pigimg.zhongso.com/space/gallery/广州市高雅音响行/VM752_副本.jpg it seems to suggest 500Hz is the lower limit. The woofer goes up to 700Hz though.
delapoer,
thanks for the link. One would expect more insight for such an
expensive driver.
That's true but I think they are only sold to a few manufacturers who know the quality (Quested for example). Trying to find data on the PMC version is much harder!

It would be. That one is made in-house by PMC themselves and they only sell them as spares.
The active crossove points I am using have been sucked from the original plans by Wilmslow Audio for their passive crossover.
KatieandDad,
if only you could measure impulse response, you'd benefit
much from data recorded. Same goes for impedance.
In the same fashion you'd check your active XO electronics
as well.

Nirvana Christmas today.
The drivers have finally arrived. I'm still experimenting with the amps for the active version so I've gone and bought the crossovers to make them passive for the time being.
I was going to use my F5 for tweeter duty but I'm so disappointed by its performance that I don't think it will do these speakers justice.
For the time being I'll be using my Aleph 4 for full range duty.

When will you have them wired up?
I must admit I've given up on trying to get a good finish on them. After I contacted a local French Polisher and he quoted me £100 it became a no-brainer.
