here's a little Eminence 12cx in my pile - its less sensitive than the Martin 1114 but sports a 4" coil, good xmax and 109oz magnet - it may make a nice Karlsonator
An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.
That is a huge magnet! What CD are you running with this? Are the TS specs same as factory published? I can run the Karlsonator with it if same specs.
Banana skin ? 😀
Sillycone on the floor, ran the can opener and kitty came runnin, hit the spot and slid a**h*les over elbows into the wall 😀
that heavy Eminence is sold by TSG out in Utah - subjectively its not as loud as the discontinued 1114 Eminence coax sold by Martin Sound and neither seem quite as loud as a B&C 12PE32 in another of my Karlson 12s.
I've run the 4" coil coax with ASD1001 and lately with a Mylar B52 compression driver - even the cheap 1001 sounded very good with Fritz Wunderlich and piano. The 4" coil should take some 300 watt peak whacks.
I have bought cast frame Eminence 12 coax with magnet slug weight ranging from 54->80-109 ounces. The old 1114 with 80 ounce magnet is about 6dB hotter than a 206 and a 206 is hotter than a Tang 1772. Eminence's Beta 12LTA is sensitive but imo lacks dynamics with its wimpy motor and 0.08" overhang

No treatment just powder residue from laser scan. White is sanitary silicone and pink is additive silicone forming waveguide throat. In future could be made out of brass (metal spinning).
I have a strange problem. I bought an Eminence CX-10 today. I had bought an ASD 1001 compression driver a while ago. There seems to be a problem with the threads on the CX-10 and the ASD1001. After going in a fair amount when there is about 4 mm left to go in, the ASD seems to get 'loose' and starts to wobble around seriously. So much that I cannot tighten it as it seems to be out of the threads ! What could be happening ?
The same ASD fits perfectly on their H290S ABS horn.
Any ideas ?
Cheers.

An update on my comment about the threads on the ASD1001 and CX10. I had emailed Eminence also. I got a super fast reply !
There is a small intentional adjustment to the threads that enables mm threads to fit also. So a bit of play does take place initially but it does tighten up properly. So non US users needn't worry in case they find the same problem.
Cheers.

Anybody removed the dust cap on the CX-10 and heard the difference ? Maybe even measured it ?🙂
I heard that difference is insignificant (both measured and subjective). No need to remove dust cap.
Has anyone tried stuffing a K-tube down the throat of the stock CX10 horn and glue in place? Of course, the dustcap has got to go.
no - but I know it would work well - - back on Job Ulfman's karlson forum, David A. Young spoke of Karlson experiences including conversion of coaxial to koaxial
I removed the dust caps on my Beta10cx a while back for an experiment for an omni directional speaker. Since I already had the K tubes, I stuck them in to see how it would work.
Personally, I don't think it's worth the trouble. The existing horn works fine, even better according to the measurements, although I didn't measure them off axis.
Here are the pics of the Adire HE10.1 with dust cap removed, with the K tube inserted, and the response curves.

Don,
Wow ! That was a quick turnaround for an off the wall request. Thanks for taking the time to try it. What CD driver do you have on it or is it already part of the main driver? I think the Koaxial will have wider directivity than the stock mini horn.

CD is eminence APT50, supposedly modified for the HE10.1 The crossover was designed specifically for this combo, perhaps some tweaking could improve the response with the K tube.
The K tube was made from 1" OD aluminum tube. Besides having no WAF, it poses a significant hazard protruding from the speaker.
It should be OK in a Karlson enclosure, but as I mentioned before, it doesn't seem to be an improvement over the 10cx horn.

TSG 12844 Coax in Karlsonator
Freddi,
I have been meaning to run this for you. This is a very nice driver - wow some efficiency and mosnter Bl value there. It does well in a standard Karlsonator - but may have a bit too much in 300 to 500 Hz peakiness. This of course can work in a tall stretched out Karlsonator to get deeper bass extension if you want it. The last plot shows a Karlsonator stretched in the vertical and depth by 18/12 and stretched in the width by 13/12 with an additional vent factor of 1.7x. It reaches down to 25 to 30 Hz.

ASD1001 vs D220Ti
Does the D220Ti sound substantially better than the ASD1001 ? I use the ASD1001 and it sounds nice but I felt it might be slightly less bright than I am used to hearing in a regular 2 way system. The crossover is also an Eminence unit designed for the CX-10 . There is an attenuator for the tweeter . But I wonder if the ( apparent !) reduction in extension is level related or due to bandwidth differences.
I guess I will have to measure the response before trying to tweak anything.
The final design would probably will be in an open baffle with supporting sealed sub. It would be an active 3 way system with stereo sub.
