Experience with this DIY DAC ?

It's been a while since I dug into this board.

For 192kHz/24bit, you can run this only if you are using the CS8421 up-sampling (ASRC) option board. Then the CS4398 pcb dip-switch positions should be UP,DWN,DWN,DWN (Note UP is actually off=0, and down is on=1)

Without the up-sampling board:
The USB input chip PCM2902 is good for 48kHz max.
The DIR9001 is max. 96kHz and the CS8416 depends on the version of this DAC you have. I'm not sure this DAC in stock form can take 192kHz SPDIF input.

Beyond this, I have some V2, V3, V5 manuals/schematics.

Hi
In the attachment is my DAC

Best regards

Gabriel, from the picture, your DAC board version LM-2D does not have the headers for the ASRC upsampling option board, which is needed for 192kHz operation (see attached pic of a version LM-3 DAC with vertical ASRC card).

Although the chips can do 24bit/192kHz, it's a bit of false advertising- you have to do mods to get your board to take 192kHz input. Even then, the stock op-amps (NE5532's) are not well-suited for DAC filters and they sound awful here- a limiting factor.

I still have the same issue, can't play 192k files when the upsampling board is plugged in. If I pull the board and put the jumpers back it works, but then I loose upsampling capability on <192k files. Is it due to the wrong PLL values on the CS8416?

I believe I have the last version of the board. I am bypassing the op amps and using transformers.

Yes, you can not bypass CS4398 oversampling modes:

"4.4 Oversampling Modes:

The CS4398 operates in one of three oversampling modes based on the input sample rate. Single-Speed mode supports input sample rates up to 50 kHz and uses a 128x oversampling ratio. Double-Speed mode supports input sample rates up to 100 kHz and uses an oversampling ratio of 64x. Quad-Speed mode supports input sample rates up to 200 kHz and uses an oversampling ratio of 32x."

I have the Gigaworks Big DAC using a transformer output stage but I'd like to try a tube output stage after hearing the potential of the Jolida Glass FX lately.

Is there an easy "walk through" and/or parts list somewhere does anybody know? These threads are so large I can't see the wood for the trees.

Thanks
