6th order bandpass design for dual 6.5"

Hi Y'all,

Here is a quick simulation for the 299-114 in push-pull using WinISd. The enclosure will be app. three times as large. I'd go with multiple of the smaller enclosures, using something like the Geddes multiple subwoofer approach.

Regards,

Thats definetly too large. I will have to run 150 watts through your single iso 6th order box in winisd and see what the possible output at 1 meter would be....it's around 116 db with the dual driver setup, I am assuming 110 or so with the single iso. That may be adequate.

I have been tinkering and tinkering and I am going to make two drivers work in around 2 cubic feet, but I am hard pressed to beat the 6th order. Here is a graph of 6th order vs vented...........

Now the question remains...pvc ports? Slot Ports? Down firing PVC ports into a slot? ETc...etc....

I am now aiming for a long, tall, narrow enclosure that I can fit between my couch and the wall. Maybe 10 inches in total width, 20 inches tall and long enough to get the volume.

I couldn't sim that in my WinISD program, even went back to perfect box, about the same resuts.

I wonder if we shouldn't compare TH parameters? I will post what I am using when I get home tonight. I suspect that is the difference. I bet I entered something incorrectly.

Hi permo,

I think I got the T/S parameters correct. It definitely has a lot more output. This will give you something to compare to.

Regards,

I am torn between this design and the TQWT......I haven't picked an amplifier for this yet, but I am again leaning towards the dayton APA150 with it's built in 20hz subsonic filter. So maybe the 30hz TQWT won't work so well with that amp.

Hi permo,

Both enclosures have similar size requirements, and similar output levels. The T-TQWT goes lower (T-TQWT: -3DB @ 26Hz, avg. SPL ~ 88.6dB v. PP-BP6: -3dB @34Hz, avg. SPL ~88.7dB). With both enclosure types you'll need a low-cut filter (high pass), 20Hz doesn't sound unreasonable (maybe you can modify it to 25Hz?).

Shoot......T0TQWT or 6th order...both really cool designs.

That's cool, never use one; haven't blown a speaker in years.
Actually the processor has a bass limit setting, but never set it up.

Not sure you would need a lower end xover for music, unless you like overtures or something.

I think a lot of hometheater content (explosions, jets, doors slammming) has the potential to be subsonic.

That being said, i have used 4th and 6th order bandpass with no subsonic and it was just fine...just tempting fate though.

Hi,

It is amazing how much less than "rated" power we normally use in the home. Anyway, a low-cut (high-pass, sub-sonic) filter is a good thing. You should really take a look at stuff like that in Hornresp. I'll attach an example:

Maybe I should change the tone/purpose of this thread:

Lets put size restrictions to bed. For two of these drivers, what would be the optimum enclosure from an efficiency and low frequency perspective?

On another note, I just picked up a NHT SA-2 to power this project. 125 watts rms.

Here is another thought, if you build one and think you want more...can always add a second box to the bottom OR side (I did this 3 times).

Hard to keep quiet about the ones I built , I'm having a blast!!

On another note, you figured out how to attach thumbnails!

I only have two drivers and 125 watts, I have no doubt that the single 1/4 pipe would be fine for my listening room. I also have no doubt that the 6th order would be fine too.

I think that the increased low frequency extension of the 1/4 pipe is sure nice. I am wondering how large a tapped horn would have to be for these two drivers? I am willing to go 48" in length for the enclosure as I am simply going to fit it behind my couch.

something like this....except with two drivers? I am afraid our poor little 6.5s don't have the excursion tho...
