Playstation as CD-player

Sorry to dig this up i been playing with mine after Puffin did the mods for me and wow nice work and even better sound.

I made one mod my self and that was the LED for power on, now blue! Dead easy took 5 mins inc strip and rebuild. Tricky a little with how Puffin did the mods.

Anyway there is some talk over the blue light and lasers reading disc so i want to add one (least i think 1 will be okay) but where is the best location

1 - Mount the LED
2- Get the power from?

Here is my last work on 8mm aluminum box and solder all the side pieces. Front 10mm thick and weighs 9.600 kg

Whit magnetic Clamp, in this assembly using two pairs of Wima in the DAC output, the sound is fabulous...

Any resemblance to the Accustic Arts Drive II is pure coincidence.

Is/was this a PS? Be nice if before and after sound clips were posted. Amazing work if it used to be a PS chassis.

You can see more detail on where I am Forum: Leitor de CD da Playstation 1002 em caixa de aluminio...

I'll try to make a video with a Pentax Kr only to see the operation because the sound is not certainly the best.

A few more who have built and made me happy and made others happy...

Cool, very very cool 😀

Sadly the caps got broken from puffins mod. It's now just running directly off the DAC where he tapped into it into a set of RCA's that are earthed to serial IO.

Have bluetacked the lid shut button down so it can play topless

Blue laser led mod done, looks cool sound better

Honestly can not tell the difference with or without caps and resistors

Quite fantastc thread, 7 years+...

During the past weeks I have read thru the pages and I'm going to implement some of the ideas into my 1002. Does anyone recall why removing the muting transistors was a good idea? I don't remember any explanation to this and can't find the reason trough searcing the thread.

Brgds

This is basically what they do :-

The muting transistors serve a purpose. When no music is playing, when the micro-controllers are busy with themselves, sometimes some creepy noise will leak out. You don't hear them on stock CD players as the output muting transistors work as they describe. They mute out such rubbish. After this tweak, you might hear these weird noises. This is perfectly OKAY. If this bothers you, then put back the muting transistors.
