Almost no one apart from modders seems to know if they have the "real" audiophile PS1! Non of the ebay listings ever give this sort of info.
I actually also have the (fairly rare) RCA JP SCPH 3000 model, that no one else has ever seemed to post about. It's basically like the ROTW 100x model, and update of the JP 1000, but I haven't opened it up yet to check what chip it has either. This sort of info is basically immpossible to catalogue because theres been so many revisions right from the start.
I do wonder though those people who listened to a 1001/2 model and thought "not that great" were just listening to the wrong chip model. Because the real audiophile PS1 is an undeniable, unfathomable analog brilliance that I still after all these years can't get over.
