...and I didn't touch 1794 yet.
Ah man... I'm looking forward to the balanced version.
I'm out of USB DACs, (only SPDIF version is available) and I didn't touch 1794 yet.
Will there be more USB versions or is that it? 🙁
Hi Peter, I got the Dac delivered. Sounds great with the Optical out of my cdp. But the sound gets cut off frequently when i connect my laptop through USB to optical out of my creative xfi sound card. The connections are stable, so cant guess what could be the reason.Any idea/solution?
Sorry, it works, just connected the usb cable directly instead of through the powered hub. That seems to have solved the problem.
Hi Peter,
Do you still provide DAC premium kit?
What is difference in performance between your USB DAC and SPDIF DAC? A SPDIF DAC + USB/SPDIF converter will provide the same performance as USB DAC?
Thanks.

I run out of boards for USB DAC, so presently only SPDIF version is available (still with BGs)
The differences between those two DAC is the input circuitry.
With a USB -> SPDIF converter, you should be able to achieve very similar performance.
No news on PCM1794 version yet.

With an USB -> SPDIF converter, say HiFace, do you find better sound quality from high resolution files than 16/44 with your DAC?

I never really tried high resolution files on my DAC as it 16/44 limited.
Hi all,
Sorry for another comparison question.
Regarding the USB/SPDIF converter, I am looking for a kit that I can diy. I've read about HagUSB kit (Hagerman Technology LLC: HagUsb USB to SPDIF Audiophile Converter). Comparing the performance and sound quality of HiFace with HagUSB, anyone from here has experience and comments?
Peter, have you tried your DAC with HagUSB or Teralink X (or X2). Teralink is recommended as in this post (USB to SPDIF converters shoot-out : EMU 0404 USB vs. Musiland Monitor 01 USD vs. Teralink-x vs. M2Tech hiFace)
Any recommendation for USB/SPDIF converter diy project?
Many thanks

I've been only using hiFace and I like it.
HagUSB can be a simple DIY alternative, but I would suspect that hiFace is better.
IIRC, the guy who started this thread: Audiosector USB DAC -- my new DAC--(and comparison) was comparing my SPDIF DAC with HagUSB to my USB DAC and both were very close in his opinion.

Just upgraded to OS X Lion and now my Mac Mini doesn't recognize the DAC. Anyone else have this problem? How do I go about checking to see if the problem is with the DAC?
Mac Lion Compatibility - USB Dac
Hi Peter
I am having this issue also. Just purchased a new Mac Min running OS Lion and it does not seem to recognize your USB Dac. Works fine on XP.
Any sugestions would be appreciated.
Tks

Adding optical to USB board?
Hi Peter,
I have been using your USB DAC for a number of years now and I'm really happy with it. However, I want to make my setup more user friendly, having a meters long usb cable through the living room isn't that great anymore...
I am looking to connect it to an optical source (Airport Express). Is there any way to add that to the exisiting board, much like your stacked solution of adding USB to a SPDIF board (multiple inputs would be even better, but 1 would do also)?
Best regards,
Erik
Yes, the price is correct.
In order to keep best performance, either USB or SPDIF versions are available separately only. You can however, stack two DACs, boards powering them off a single supply.
