It's the first I knew I actually had a thread on this subject.

"Not," according to Toole, who devotes an entire chapter to "Why not."Ex. Is the *question* of combing not important to loudspeaker reproduction in a domestic environment? 😕

What are the important questions?
If you want to have a discussion with me then you should read my posts from time to time, e.g. http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/multi-way/166411-measurements-when-what-how-why-130.html#post2247801
Zilch's claims sounded pretty detailed to me. You said that these claims are "incorrect" so your claims are as detailed. Or maybe you just wanted to express something different?
A. I never said they needed to be "as" detailed.
B. (under context) Zilch never gave a detailed reference for his claims.
What I gave him was (I believe) precisely enough for him to understand his error - and more importantly *why* it was in error. I also allow for the opportunity for further discussion in a better thread for the topic.

It's a good thread too! 😀
You obviously have not much insight into how a recording/mixing/mastering engineer works. Headphones are an indispensable tool for detecting errors.
Now you are telling me what I have and don't have.. 🙄
Maybe I should tell you about you, hmm?

Wrong thread. 🙁

I obviously didn't give you enough information that Zilch's (detailed) claims and your claims (not detailed) are built on shaky ground. There are no studies on small room acoustics that are conclusive. If there were such studies, this discussion would be moot.
Now you are telling me what I have and don't have..
Your comment did not allow for any different conclusion.

OK, so I will tell you about you..
You don't know squat about IACC. If you did, you would understand that there is an implicit connection *regardless* of any studies on domestic listing conditions.
IACC is a technical measure, and not solely for concert hall acoustics.
,,and once more, it's not germane to this thread.

From your myopic perspective, sure.

🙂 I know what IACC is. I thought we were past basic definitions and ask really important questions like: how does IACC relate to spatial perception? Please show me the conclusive studies that deal with real rooms and recordings and not only with single reflections in anechoic environments.
Would you mind posting those references? I don't know them.
Ando did a lot of work with IACC, but it is all applied to auditorium acoustics and none of it has any relavance to the discussions here. It is not possible to talk about IACC for single reflections, etc. since it can only be defined for the steady state. It's being used in this thread in a manner that makes no sense.

I thought people in this thread would be aware of these facts.

Apparently not.
Has anyone read Music, Physics and Engineering by Harry F. Olson? He is considered a pioneer it seems. I was just wondering if I should order it as it's only $10. I know it's an old book, but would still be pertinent today? I mean the fundamentals and the math have to be the same now.
Any opinions or recommendations would be appreciated,
Dan

Great book, in its day, long ago. Sad so few people anymore honor the LS1A (I may have that wrong) with its bow-tie whizzer appendage.... at least for historical reasons.
Beranek's old book on acoustics (with some updates, I think) holds up better.
Wouldn't it be a hoot to learn about auditory perception and cognition? Wish I knew what to recommend. Think Markus would enjoy such a book?

Thanx for that. I figure anything Olson wrote is worth reading. My copy is ordered.

I heard a pair some 35 years ago. Left a very favorable impression. Don't know how it would stand up now, but i'd welcome an opportunity to hear them again.

I'm not a fan of Olson and much of what he wrote has proven to be false. He seems to have taken some liberties with his data. Beranek is a much better book, but even that is quite dated.
