I think I must be afraid of failure. I still haven't built the YARPS power-supply I've mostly worked out the layout on verro-board, and I still have a number of components (not least of which is a transformer) to purchase. You would think that the three months I've been waiting for the silmics I could have got the rest organised... sigh...
The Synergy active crossover, I haven't even started on the layout for
the YARPS is a prerequisite for powering it up, but once again, nothing stopping me from doing other stuff.
Today finally received the 14, 1000 uF elna silmic II's today that I ordered months ago. I need two for the PS output and the other 12 are destined for the Synergy (yeah I know WTF?) the current schematic doesn't show them but in a case of gross overkill they will be used for separating different sections of the circuit if I can fit them
Basically they will be decoupling the various sections from the supply (and each other). 1 cap per rail per section per channel each buffered by a 1 ohm resistor. Will the result be a success or a complete unmitigated disaster? If I ever get it done I'll let you know whichever way it turns out
I also have 8 X 10,000uF 80V Nichicon KG's waiting to be made into a power supply for my Series 200 amp. It is an integrated amp, but I will be using just the power amp part as the sub amp for my 10" woofers. I'm planning on butchering the existing PCB cutting the star point (which is common to both channels) in half, and having a separate rectifier/cap bank for each channel (I actually have two torroids, but they are not identical (are the same voltage but physically different) so will probably run with a single transformer. I plan to run the speaker returns directly back to the PS rather than via the PCB traces, and have each "local" star on the PCB come back to the same point. The crosstalk is pretty bad with the existing layout, not that it will matter much for something that is only going to be working up to around 300Hz but hey I'm from the school of maximum overkill remember
I'll use BYV32e's (the two diodes in each package in parallel) that I used in my LM3886 power-supply for the rectifiers, and otherwise the PS will be a pretty standard affair, I've tossed up whether to put a reistor in between the two 10,000's per rail, still haven't decided. I've wanted to do this for years!! hopefully the change will be worth it.
I've attached the PCB view so it can be seen where I want to cut the star point in half. I I'd also like to move the output relay and zobel for the right channel to the right side of the amp (will have to be on a daughter board), at the moment there is a heavy lead going from the right amplifier to the left side where the relay/zobel is, one of the less clever aspects of the PCB layout
Once these three things have been completed I'll be able to start work on the Baby Aksa (thanks Greg!) If I put my mind to it I can hopefully at least get some stuff built (if not finished) within a couple of months. Here's hoping!
There have been quite a few views of the Synergy blog entry so I'm thinking there might be some interest once I have something going. hopefully the next blog entry will have some results and not be too far away.
Anyway enough of this procrastination, I really do need to get building!!

edit 22/07/2010: just to show I meant it, I've attached a photo showing testing of component layout, bought a 2mm drill yesterday to drill the holes for the snapins. Still a few more components to purchase, 1 ohm power resistors and bc560c's but looks like it will all fit
