Hi,
Just thought of a way to play a cd
and better adjust the 100Xs or 550Xs at the
same time. Burn a track of music onto
an 80mm CDR and you have no hassles
with adjusting the gain and bias and
less than normal for the laser ribbon
adjuster, All the trimmers and measure
points become much more accessable with a
80mm cdr. You get 21 minutes approx. of
CD audio to test things out.

Have been experimenting with an RF joystick from
Joytech. It works through walls and the sensor
which can be inside the PS1 case seems not to
hassle the player as far as I can see
On sale for AUD$19. Good up to 30 plus
feet they say. Has sleep mode for batteries
No more code errors when your playstation
gets LG or Sharp TV signals muddled with
some remote codes ! ! !

Joytech have some interesting controllers.
Is that one you highlighted a RF unit?
If you go for their more costly RF controllers
you can I believe have them set to two codes
so if you have a dual PS1 set up with fader
you could switch the controller to either PS1
or have one controller for each PS1. Used to
do this dual thing with my CD32s before I got into Ps1s.
Joytech also made a Ir controller module that runs
on same codes as a Futuretronics remote.
It says 39/50k series and behaves better with the
Futuretronics controller than with its own JT silver remote
on the PS1. Hope to write up a thing on remotes sometime soon. Many other IR brands I have tried perform badly with PS1s.
Anyone else having TV remotes sending odd codes to their
Ir recieves on their PS1s??

It only bothered me when helping others
get PS1s set up with assorted Sharp and LG amps.
Vcrs or TVs in the room. The remotes all want a go at
pressing a Playstions remote buttons as it were!
The RF remote is fun especially since I can
recline in a bath and lean over and swap tracks
being careful not to dunk the Joystick like I dunked
my 3 Mobile! The RF receivers are very small or at least the Joytech one I have is. Easy to hide INSIDE!

ok, well i got the spch 1002 running into my hifi, im very pleased. there is no audible problem with the frequency response, nice clear sound, and musical! and this is without any mods! (also only 30 mins into listening, plus im someone wwho doesn't care too much for critical listening) its clearly better than the technics 110 cd changer, and the sherwood 5cd changer that i also own (which sounded muffled and boomy from the outset).
im pleased that i dont have to shell out on that cd5 i was eyeing up, although ill probably spend as much just on components modding it....
first thing ill do on pay-day, make the psu external (worried about overheating) and bypass the output stage with a low pass filter.
good thing i have two, now i dont have to worry about breaking bits when i tinker.....
oooh, how fun!

From what I recall in the 750x series the clock frequencies
were derived by a less desirable cheaper method by Sony.
The DAC was still an Asahi in the same family. The method
of dividing the clock frequency used on the 100x and up to
the 550x was ideal as low jitter was a result of the design.
Check Wiki on Playstations and maybe Playfidelity (german)
and you may find confirmation of this. Will look around for
my notes on this..... Just had a look at Playfidelity site and
it seems the 550x was the last series with the AK4309 AVM
Dac and good crystal oscillator. That is mother board PU18
Next generation used a AK4309B or something and a multiply

at the CD player picture then apply
it to a PS1. Could make for a very
interesting CD PS1 based player in
a wood box Note the top seems to be

listening to jeff buckley's 'grace'. wow, the ps1 is revealing things i have never heard before, saliva in the back of jeff's throat, accompanying guitars, extra sounds. the ps1 has something i thought was only attainable on vinyl, attack and dynamics. its making me jump, giving me goosebumps and giving me a grin that only a budget defying component like this can.
what a winner, definitely the best upgrade i have done this year!
