Party pooper, I'm goin' with Chris, he's older and wiser than you.
older yes, "wiser" ? - by whose metric?
Dave has seen more of this particular size range of driver than a lotta folks - certainly myself.
Many thanks! I had missed that.
Hmmm.... the FF105WK didn't really show well in that test - although I haven't listened myself yet.
I wouldn't put much into XRK's test… there are far too many other things you are listening to than the drivers. And i wouldn't put much into his 10 kHz peak without a listen.

Thanks Dave, I appreciate the thoughts.
For interest has anyone else looked at the measurements of the FE103-SOL in Klang + Ton magazine, as referenced here;
FE103EN vs. FE103-SOL
I purchased a copy, and used Google Translate to translate.
I'm attempting to get my head around the Harmonic Distortion charts. My interpretation is that its pretty clean with regular odd-order harmonics (Red K3 line), but has a peak in even order harmonics (blue K2 line) around 1.8Khz.
Also, the Spectrum Waterfall chart looks fairly regular and fast - at least against the Tang Band and Wavecor drivers on test.
If anyone else has looked, am I interpreting the charts correctly?
Would the harmonic behaviour measured explain the smooth/pleasant sound experienced by those who have tried it?
My girlfriend is telling me to just hurry up and buy them!

Geddes has a serious chapter on speaker distortion in his book. Then he did some real world listening studies (proper double blind scientific tests) and now says that these kinds of tests are more or less meaningless and that people should just skip over that chapter. I tend to agree.

Well then?
Either the SOL or the FF105wk are good choice, and its not like one pair of drivers is gonna be the end

If it's anything like buying a new car...
Probably based purely on the color!

Ha ha, funny!
She actually just encouraged me to finally pull the trigger, on whatever I wanted the most! No complaint here!
Now the wait.. and time to get started on cabinets.

Luck you...
What cabinets are you thinking? FH3?

I love the idea of the FH3, however ultimately these are for a bedroom with no floor space for speakers. They will likely live on either side tables or worst case on a marble fire mantle.
(I need to make up my lounge speakers too.. I've had other drivers in a cupboard for too long!)
I'm not expecting miracles for the bass.. these will be replacing the habit of listening using the built in iPhone speaker!
Ill probably build some basic Bass Reflex boxes. The Fostex recommended enclosure from the spec sheet of 6.6L tuned to 73Hz dimensionally works for me size wise.
To be honest I'm even tempted to go smaller - like the Fostex P1000E cabinet which is only 3.6L tuned to 82Hz.
I do wonder if I move the port to the rear of the cabinet and place the rear around 4 inches from the wall if the boundary effect would be beneficial for this use case?

Can you pls share the sims you are getting from 2 box designs you've mentioned?
These drivers will probably also work in compact floor standing MLTLs... that way you don't need speaker stands.

Sure thing. Please find it attached.
I assume the smaller box could be tuned a little lower to flatten and extend it a bit. These are Fostex's designs and tuning frequencies.
I meant I don't have much floor space to have anything on the floor!
Incidentally the room is 3.5m x 3.5m, with 3.3m high ceiling.
