Here is my finished amp (for now). So many people to thank- mainly Eli Duttman, Jim McShane, Captn Dave, TheGimp & others. All tubes were replaced including Rectifier. Filter cap replaced, Nichicon axial used for cathode bypass. IC MPW PP caps & Panasonic NOS PP film/foil caps were used. All resistors more than 5% out of tolerance were replaced. 3 wire power cord with 3A SB fuse, & LED were also installed. Enjoying this 50 Yr old Magnavox rebuild with my Klipsch Chorus II's......AWESOME!!

PS Connection

Hi,

Wonderful!

What model of network connections from the power supply to the amplifier?
Hi,

The connections use 7 pin iec plugs and sockets bought from ebay. (Only four connections are used in this application.) They are rated 250vac 10amps but I rang the UK importer's technical department and was unofficially told that they should be able to handle 400-500vdc. The B+ is about 300vdc so I think safe enough...

This is the matching preamp to my 2a3 amp on page 404 of this thread. The layout (inspired by the Icon Audio PS) was my solution to be able to get both on the same shelf. Thanks

Headphone amp

Not finished (transformer needs a cover and I can't make up my mind about a few other minor details) but almost there. To be honest it looks like a DIY amp (it looks crap) but it will do. It was supposed to be a Mu follower + Cathode follower but when I started wiring it I got lazy and it ended up being only a SRPP stage. My headphones have a high impedance (600 ohms) so I think it will work, if not, I have two extra tubes to fix any deficiency. I'm not a headphones fan anyway.

Sometimes I build stuff that I don't need. Looking at the positive side, it is true that later I enjoy destroying stuff that I don't need. Kind of a mini god in my own terms. Anyhow, none of my creatures is perfect - they must die sooner or later.

Just "finished" a Broskie CCDA rev 2 preamp

John had sent me a board to evaluate a while back and I finally got around to essentially completing it.

Still need to add the power switch and get some feet for the chassis.

Funny thing is that I used some "bad" ebay 6CG7's to do my smoke testing, they fuzzed/hissed really bad in my Aikido. I ended up doing the first sound test with them still in the sockets and they are DEAD SILENT!!!

Another weird thing is that I am measuring 4.2V across the 300ohm cathode resistors...so that is like 14mA... didn't know a 6CG7 was capable of that...

This is the first time I have used a Toroid for the PT and using a Par Metal chassis, which is very nice BTW...

The sound is excellent...I need to live with it for a while and break in the coupling caps...running russion K40Y9's .22uF and Auricaps .47uF in parallel.

Here is a righteous under skirt shot...
