Germanium investigations

Here we go, there's the data on hFE and Vbe sorted by both and a spreadsheet (linked) with all the data / graphs this Peak DCA75 can output split by sheet for each transistor which is:

Measurements: hFE, Vbe, VceSat, IcLeak

Graphs: Ic / Vce, hFE / Vce, hFE / Ic, Ic / Vbe, Ic / Ib

Yep, they did come with the mounting kits for them all too, that was a spot of luck!

Germanium triode found . . .

I was looking at a document on a Tektronix 576 component tester. :hot:

Lo and behold: them there found GERMANIUM solid state triodes in production far before the SIT's. :worship:

Germanium PNP on tektronix comp tester 576.jpg

They changed the leads
That leads to an all too recognized curve.
as (s)he says a few laine on, after doing the same with an 6SN7 . . : "I guess we have all seen a Titanic movie."

(It surprised mee before that in many JFETs the drain and source are also interchangeable.)

..it'd be nice to put some of these into something and see how they sound, they look very cool :D

Congratulations ElliotA

In my photos archives I find this , looks familiar like 2SB***
Was from old DIY blog who are not more available on line.
Ge power darlington output stages....maybe :)

Last weeks I wanted to put some Ge into audio.
There is point to point quick build on perfboard
line stage with AC187K germanium. PSU is 15V SMPS brick.
Listened now two first compositions 小久保 隆 Takashi Kokubo - Jamaica

Hi SoundHappy
Could Ypu please post the schematic of the tested circuit?
(from page 4)
With trimmed values of R You tested?
Thanks

I found EMT NoiseX output stage, transformer driver, schematic. I sketch sch, but some values of Cs I simply cant read... :(.
At the very output end are Germanium pair trnasistors.
I remember that this circuit had high amplifiaction rate. (And output interstage transformers are simply excellent.)
Power suply is also with Germanium pass transistor, but I didnt took the scematic. Sorry :(

According to PRR's datasheet Ft=10kHz....

No, 10kc. Makes you feel old.

With some faster drivers, such fat slow parts can "do audio", testing at the 1W level at the top of the audio band. Since real speech/music falls-off past 1kHz/kc, this is rational. (We used to be warned to NOT try full power at high frequency because the shoot-through current would melt the transistors.)
