What one pair of speakers you would purchase?

Ever since I was able to build my own speakers, I doubt I will ever purchase any pairs of speakers again. I mean you could build for something better but at much lower cost and fit your style as well.
But if I had a few bucks to throw around, the one pair I must have is the Thiel CS3.4 (or CS7.2 if I even had a few more bucks). I had a chance to audition them and I was just amazed at how they imaged.

dear friend
those who have listened to me one of the best speakers on the market.
I appreciate the products and the sound it has a pair of Thiel CS 1.6 and I'm thinking to purchase cs 2.4
Thiel is synonymous with products made with great care and passion to sound their best without compromise.
are very transparent and does not add anything to the music
are difficult to fly and why it should be chosen with care their amplification.

I hope I can buy them as soon as possible so I can enjoy listening

regards Caesar

There can't be that many Dreadnought owners.
AFAIK Tannoy only ever made 6 pairs, Vangelis has or used to have one pair.

The XO6000 was Dreadnought specific so I guess that there were/are about 6 of them in existence.
They made a lot more XO5000s but even those are about as common as hens teeth.

That said recently somebody was selling a pair possibly complete with XO6000 on gearslutz.com for €8000.

Nothing I can not build at home.
I like though the JBL 4350B, BOSE 901 (wood/original), I would like to listen to the (small) Guru's or the (£116.76) STUDIOSPARES SN10, PMC's TL (never did) BB5-XBD or IB2S-XBD, and more. I would buy/have the Westlake Audio BB10-SWP for serious lounge listening and relax. Is also the point to have a good relation with the rest of your equipment and room/auditorium.
Have Focals, Mordaunt-Short and diy every other-day, don't plane to change, but build more.

I'm working on a hot-rodded Klipschorn, and after that, a VOTT. But if I had to buy something shy of a 5-way horn, these would be fun:

* Klipsch Jubilees (available through their cinema division, ~$7-10k)
* JBL Everest (a good shop speaker, no horn-loaded bass though)
* JBL Hartsfield repro (at least the bass is horn-loaded)

You think that sounds better than the B&W 802D or Wilson Watt/Puppies of your selection?

Under the right circumstances, horns just "breathe" at you. Even lacking a flat response, that breathing quality is addicting. Other speakers can sound small, flat and lifeless by comparison.

Horns are also capable of capturing the dramatic surge of orchestral dynamics. I've heard non-horn speakers try to do that, but it's never as convincing (to me).

why be stuck with the sound of just one pair of speakers, one room?

Smyth Research - add subs to your room, maybe "upgrade" the Stax headphones

and then "collect" high end sound systems, can even calibrate in mastering studios for the price of an hour rental

I've put some serious thought into buying the Smyth system. I could be well worth the price and the reviews are very good. Would love to hear it.

rjbond. yes, I'll take a good pair of VOTT over any other speaker I've heard, Wilson, B&W, whatever. I like a lot of the others, but the VOTT does it for me. I posted that system from eBay just because it's so pretty. 😀

More like a shout at you ..... they have the opposite effect on me, i have never heard one sound convincing in an domestic environment , usually it's the poor tonal balance that does them in...

Aside, I did like the big Avantgarde ...... not so the jadis Eurythemie , kilpsch , et al ...

I've heard that too and it's usually a question of crossover design. Not all are great. Mine are not shouty in any way at all, quite the opposite.

Aside, I did like the big Avantgarde[/QUOTE]Which interesting because it's one of the worst I've ever heard. Awful tonal balance and distorted drivers. I was quite shocked. Maybe we did not hear the same model.

Which VOTT , horns and drivers are your favorite in a home environment?
There are many good ones and good combos. My personal favorite is the 828 bass cabinet loaded with the 515 driver topped by 1505 horn and 288 alnico compression driver. At home I use a similar system: 828 cabinet, 416 woofer, 1005 horn with a 288 ceramic driver.
