Ian, currently I am using RP3B+ with Volumio feeding my DAC via USB cable. My friend suggested a better transport because he said RP3B+ is noisy. And it is noisy comparing to my Vinyl. My vinyl has black background. So if I order 1A from you, do I need anything else? My DAC accepts SPDIF optical and Coaxial, BNC and USB. Greatly appreciated.

Thanks Ian, I’ll wait for the FIFO Pi 3 and take your offer on the free PCB shield when I order the FOFOPi 3. Can you please put me down on the waiting list for it. Also, do I need anything else besides Fifopi3? Does it have its own clock and isolator?

I just order an Acopian regulated linear power supply rated at 5V 23A output (23A output not a typo) so hope it will clean up the power a little from Cana kit power supply

Ian, I'm trying to understand the ultracap possibilities for use with the Bridgepi. If I'm using bridgepi + amanero + fifopi with i2s out to an external dac and no rpi, can I power fifopi with 3.3v (thus bypassing the LDOs) or 5v uconditioner? Would the conditionerpi have a role to play anywhere in the stack? If so, which module would receive the conditioned power?

Normally, Amerno is USB powered. Is it possible to provide it with external power if using bridgepi?

Last question...if I add a rpi, can I use conditionerpi + 5v conditionerpi to power the rpi and fifopi?

To use BridgePi and FifoPi without a RPi, basically you will need two power supplies, one is 5V before isolation and the other is the clean 3.3V, I have two options for you:

1. For a light weight application, use a ConditionerPi with a 3.3V LDO for both.

2. For advanced application, use a LinearPi Dual (5V + 3.3V configuration) and two UcConditioners (one 5V , one 3.3V)

To use BridgePi and FifoPi without a RPi, basically you will need two power supplies, one is 5V before isolation and the other is the clean 3.3V, I have two options for you:

1. For a light weight application, use a ConditionerPi with a 3.3V LDO for both.

2. For advanced application, use a LinearPi Dual (5V + 3.3V configuration) and two UcConditioners (one 5V , one 3.3V)

Thanks Ian. I am still struggling to understand how everything would be connected:

In situation 1: I would feed ConditionerPi 5v, either from USB or higher quality supply via J9. ConditionerPi would output 5v and 3.3v. with the LDO. Is power then fed directly to FifoPi via GPIO? I'm not sure what is drawing the 5v and 3.3v here.

In situation 2: I would have 3.3v and 5v power supplies. I would feed FifoPi 3.3v to J5 bypassing its LDO and then 5v to BridgePi? I'm confused becuase the 5v input on BridgePi appears to be optional - would this feed Amanero external clean power so it's not USB powered?

BridgePi messing up the stack

I have a strange situation, where once BridgePi is added to the stack (with or without RPi), The FifoPo stops locking. The various players I tried insist all is good and keep streaming data - just FifoPi is not locked.

When I first received BridgePi I had success with it on it’s own in the following formation:

Amanero (TPA version) -> BridgePi -> FifoPi -> TransportPi -> HDMI -> DAC. I tried PCM and all was great, but DSD (DoP) had a strange distortion to it.
I wanted to make sure RPi-> FifoPi was still OK, so I pulled the BridgePi from the stack and all was working fine again. I noticed I lost bass, which I dismissed as probably subjective at the time, but the more I listen to various tracks, the more I’m certain about it. Truth is, before adding BridgePi and ConditionerPi, my system never sounded so precise and full.

My golden stack was:

RPi -> FifoPi -> TransportPi -> HDMI -> DAC.

Even going back to it again, I can’t reach the same level as it was before adding the new components.
It could however be due to other variables - quality of mains etc - so I hope it’s not due to some glitch that the new components introduced.

Right now, the working combination is this:

RPi -> ConditionerPi -> ShieldPi -> FifoPi -> TransportPi -> HDMI -> DAC.

Apart from losing bass, I think I have bit of a buzz on quiet passages. I’m trying to get another DAC to eliminate as many variables as possible.

Ian,
I also tried your default clocks - the 4x rate - I normally have 9x Accusilicon. Same thing.
I also tried flashing Amanero with SLAVE_1081_DSDSWAPPED and tried getting MCLK from FifoPi.
Same thing. No joy.

The most important thing I believe is that the EMPTY LED is not lit when BridgePi is connected.
