I'm taking the RevC bare PCBs only - it allows me to collect the other parts in the BoM in a flexible manner - i.e. go for premium parts only for some key components, and stay with "good enough" parts for the rest. I can also wait for discounts or specials/closeouts for some items, and have my choice of premium component upgrades. For instance, I can source CERDIP LM318s and LM3886TF (isolated tab) locally at reasonable prices, and have been able to scrounge around and get some KOA SPR1 and SPR2 (aka Kiwame) resistors as well.

I'd advise you to take some of Uriah's bare PCBs at least, and defer the decision on when and how to build it, to a later date. The bare boards (mono) are only $7 each.

hello,

i would like to buy a 2 x 68 Watt LM3886 + NE5532 from ebay.
i've read that there are some mods i can do to make this amp sound better.
anyway my question is:
i would like to use this amp as a guitar power amp, connecting it to a zoom g7 pedal which can preamp the guitar and output a line signal.
actually i'm using a guitar amp, but the last week i've try a tda2030 amp, and it sounds good, so i would like to try something powerfull.
in your opinion is that board a good choice for a guitar amp?, or have i to build something by myself.

thanks!

I am embarking on a new 'Yuanjing' amp with inputs for usb and sd card using a chinese panel. Only trouble is I hate making holes other than round! I will post some pics as I go along. It should be interesting. I am sorry to see nobody has answered 'hozone'. A new member as well. I wonder if Linuxguru has any advise for him/her. I would not consider this amp suitable as a guitar amp unless it was for practice only, but I don't know much about guitar amps. I would have thought more power would be needed.

Barry, sounds like a brilliant idea to integrate a DAC with input for USB etc.

Here's my implementation of this amp.
It took a while because I was busy making two Audiosector LM4780 amps, a NAP-140 amp + a Jim's Audio preamp, a Squeezebox PSU and a class A headphone amp.

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

Buttons are temporary, otherwise it's more or less finished.
It has a 3-band tone control board (reminds me of the Marantz 1030 I once had).
The circuit is unmodified, except the external rectifier pcb, which allowed me to make a strong star ground. I have no hum.

I use it as my work desk amp, with a DAB-radio hooked up. I believe the sound quality is quite good, in fact I like this little amp very much.
I'm looking for a pair of bookshelf speakers for this amp, and perhaps I'll even add another Squeezebox unit, so I can listen to my albums on this amp too

Jan

That does look impressive Jan. Good idea to have a seperate rectifier board so a good star earth can be accommodated. The case looks similar to mine from Maplins. I like the extension shaft for the pot. I usually fit one or two, but have not bothered this time. You have been busy. I'm not sure about tone controls though. It's a matter of taste really. Well done. And neat. Regards Barry
