why bother due to the crazy low (or normal, VS other brands) price of this unit
Because it is cheaper, enviroment friendly and lower shipping expense to use recone than whole compression driver.
I know about Cedric's website. He made that comparison but it is debatable what is subjectively more/less important of those measuring parameters he used to form a list valuing them equally.

I must say yes and Iagree, more friendly and more green. I would say they don't bother as it's cheap for the customer. But Seas tweeters are cheap for some and you can find the recone parts. I rate these brands higher as a customer 🙂. It should cost them as factory makers more monney because of the supply chain complexity related to the low ratio difference between the spare part and the whole reference ! It pays elsewhere ...

Peerless DFM2535 seem to be out of stock in most shops and limited stock for tlhp that still has few of them.
Are we going to witness the same scenario that happened for transducers used in Kii Three with minimum order quantity over 100-500 pieces ?
Stay tuned 🙂

I didn't see it anywhere on the web so, dfm2535:

You can't get a recone for this one, can you. If it breaks, buy a new transducer.
Thanks for the pic, I daren't open mine for fear of dropping my vape on it or it or something equally stupid to damage it.
I've only used two compression drivers and this Peerless was my first and made me wonder why some people don't like CDs as it is super sweet.

Peerless by Tymphany DFM-2535R00-08 1" Compression Horn Driver 2/4-Bolt 8 Ohm
😱
There is a new one https://en.toutlehautparleur.com/compression-driver-peerless-dfm-2535r01-08-8-ohm-1-inch-throat.html
Looks more different than just a screw on version?

Sorry, discontinued. https://products.peerless-audio.com/transducer/598
But there is an 2535r02 with better specs. https://products.peerless-audio.com/transducer/599
Interesting to see some reviews on that

I have (had?) hope for BMS 5530ND which seem to be designed 6-7 year later than the 3550. But comparing their presented data I wonder if they just made the 5530 to be smaller with same performance....? Or maybe the old one is actually a bit better?
I have the same question really 🙂

Smaller with similar performance looks like the answer. That's what the really tout in their sales pitch.
Mmm, maybe I can save a penny as I'm not that size restrained really...
and don't have to wait until July :-/

4550 had plastic rear cover which someone had to dampen cause sort of resonances? 5530 seems to be aluminium... Factory graphs are what they are, i wanna see it in my waveguide.
5530 Rear cover is plastic too. The size difference between the 4550 is quite huge. 5530 72mm diameter 0.673 Kg / 4550 121mm and 2.2Kg.4550 had plastic rear cover which someone had to dampen cause sort of resonances? 5530 seems to be aluminium...
Yes I have them but I can't give you an opinion as so far they have made no sound 🙂Is this one you own Fluid?
If yes can you give your (subjective) pov about them?
I seem to have become more a collector of drivers over the last few years which was not my intention, too many ideas too little time...
Damn! We need more free diy time! I think we are a lot in this situation, i just postponed an amplifier built because highest priority work have to be done on the house... i hate when masonmery take over electronic or woodworking ( depend of the woodwork: i have 15x 10m height thuja to get rid off in my backyard, this will be a lot of non fun woodworking). At least this is still diy...
Often that is the case and it translates to resonant behaviour or frequency response problems. In the BMS drivers the temporal response / burst decay is very clean, the frequency response smooth and the harmonic and intermodulation distortion well controlled.
@fluid , I also picked up the 5530nd
I was so excited for it to be good …. And it’s not amazing but it’s good. The 4552nd is better and it’s pretty easy to tell just by listening…
It has a flat sound that I think BMS likes to call “transparent”…I like a little horn gak I know how to tune it out, it’s the 2-3k octave Just need tamed, and 2-3k can give such powerful presence it’s what I love the most, this one is smooth out of box and no gak , so perfect for the no dsp ppl , and this one however does play to 500hz before it breaks up… that’s impressive!
I like the 2408h better for everything above 2k, below 2k this one just gets down… and it excellent sounding below 1200hz …(all compression drivers sound about the same past 3k to there natural rolloff so meh) this one has fantastic highs…. I’m giving good and bad and being picky
At stadium levels it would need to be crossed at about 1k (2nd order) but for low to normal levels I have crossed it on a 500hz horn using a 48db linear phase filter and it doesn’t jam or hit the phase plug nor does it get constrained….
Realistically I would cross at 700 with a LR4 and I bet most ppl would find that works fantastic…
I ended up loading it on a 1k waveguide and it does sound good….
Altho ….. again, the 4552nd does indeed sound better , and I think they know it hence half the price as the former…
Overall a great buy , for 270$ea it’s a fantastic driver…. Miles ahead of anything in the 100-150$ price range and they priced it just right for what you get….
I think I’ll keep it
