Not strange to me - I asked if people wanted more details two days ago, no response other than from weiyan who's not electronics literate 🙂 People can read just as well over on WBF - I prefer to scratch where people are itching. Its similar to on another thread about a DAC on Digital Line - I am in the middle of posting up a DAC design across multiple schematics - two schematics posted so far but no interest that I can see because no questions being asked. So I'm not posting up the remaining schematics because from my pov I have much more interesting things to do - like more modding 😀
 
I don't like the bad feeling of no feedback neither, although there are lots CDROM here. Who like talking to oneself?

This forum has higher search engine ranking.

I like abraxalito's opinion about op amp, although I don't fully understand. May be change op am is easier for me. Re-wire pcb? Oh, not me.

I've been listening to it using the SPDIF into my prototype LAID DAC these last couple of days - whatever the internal SRC is doing to the sound, I have yet to notice audible degradation compared to the QA550. Also I was mistaken about the volume control, or I changed one of the Chinese settings without realizing it - there's no volume control on the SPDIF out.

Overall very happy with my purchase 🙂
 
Why would I report if you won't buy it anyway ? 😉

I don't feel the urge to post what I do with equipment only when I design a new device it seems worthwhile to me.

Not yet. Next upgrade will be a better speaker.

A sd player or Async usb DAC is in my road map. The out of box performance and modding options is important in buying decision.

Agree its not urge yet.
 
It seems its not too expensive (nor too ugly) for a fair number of Head-fi guys. There's universal admiration for its SQ over there even though the price is clearly off-putting for many. It does take a certain chutzpah to ask that much money I must admit - but compared to some other high priced stuff, this product by all accounts delivers the goods.

hes having a laugh at any price, let alone that one, seen the pink furry one? the thing uses cheap as chips 16bit dac and a 32bit digital volume control... hmmm. only shitty little battery and an unbuffered opamp, but claims of driving every headphone available to the fullest (even though its pretty clear the designer has not heard a great many headphones, certainly nothing suitable for actual portable fidelity… kramer modded Koss K75 is the pinnacle.... not bad for the money, but leak like a sieve). plays hires 24/192 content (the processor reads it, not the dac of course, marketing...) and has this printed proudly on the chassis, but has 16bit dacs that lower their SNR as the volume is reduced so that it cannot be making close to full use of 16.

sorry but some of the guys over at headfi (of course not exclusive to there) will praise anything with the right high price tag that comes with the right buzzwords in the sales pitch and an accredited headphonus supremus review. its not a very technically savvy forum in general

no screen is not acceptable for an ipod, no ipod except the tiniest shuffles have no screen.

thing is a funny IMO and ive been rather vocal about that over there too, but its starting to pick up steam

I have no issue with digital volume, I have no issue with R2R 16bit dacs, I have no issue with opamps, I have no issue with playing hi res. If you combine it all together for a portable device that plays only wav, has no screen, comes with a list of impossible promises. Here we have a high dollar item, using cheap parts, with navigation issues, without the storage space to hold useful amounts of hires content, without the ability to leverage that content and customers that believe they can hear the difference playing 24/192 at listenable volumes (maybe 60-70%? dunno) on a player that struggles with 16/44 at full volume…

to be fair, if it was a less rude price, made the digital out available, played flac and had a screen; I could forgive the rhetoric. the digital stages seem fairly well done, clocks for both integers, (VERY UNUSUAL for portable) 32bit digital volume (floating point assumed) etc. ticks a lot of boxes for me if it had the full bandwidth on digital out

anyway it seems a bit like the players in this thread so far are a bit dead end eh? resampling everything to 48x would be a deal-breaker for me, pity because I am looking for a replacement for my iriver ihp120 (CF modded). might end up being an underclocked gen2 rasberry pi running MPD at this rate

huh? an onboard nos dac on a 2012 release mass produced $25 low power computer? you could build one on there I suppose. i'll be using its i2s out, not the onboard analogue, for me, on the contrary, a decent linear phase OSF would be awesome! but thats got much more to do with the software you run on it, its a little linux, android etc ARM based computer.

NOS and me dont sit well, but afaik it doesnt resample and v2 even appears to accept external clocks for the PCM. this is prerelease info, the first gen is still on sale in some places until the old stock runs out, not much detail available. apparently a number of the changes between the 2 are due to feedback from people using it for audio, as it had some issues. at the silly low prices its going for i'm not complaining.

far from useless haha, i'd say this revision creates some pretty serious opportunities for industrious DIYers, I know i've got a few interesting ideas.

I hadn't noticed claims for 32bit volume control, but its marketing fluff. A volume control is only as good as the DAC and that's clearly 16bits only. No it won't be using floating point - on an ARM7 or Cortex M3 it would have to be in software and there's no point as the input data is fixed point.

Not 48x rather 48k, selectable to 96k or 192k. I had my doubts but so far listening hasn't turned up audible artifacts. Could be good for someone using a NOS DAC like Metrum as it fixes up the droop using 96k.

oh I know, thats my main point, thus why I said only interested (in another world where it met the other changes I mentioned) if it made the digital out available, in which case I would use it as a tiny transport with my own portable dac/amp (32bit) and bypass everything else. Digital volume with a 16bit dac is plain stupid and wouldnt be an acceptable scenario if developing a $10 ebay jogging mp3 player

the thing even has 2 headphone outs, supposedly with different gain, but people are having trouble noticing the difference unless with sensitive IEMs, in which case its output Z and current capability bring its performance down. it doesnt have enough swing in the rails to offer a high gain setting for higher impedance HPs. 2 similar but not identical HP outs, but no line out… intriguing choice.

I wouldn't buy it as I reckon I could do better SQ-wise myself, but plenty of Head-Fiers are content with the sound, so they must feel its of sufficient value. I agree they're not particularly tech-savvy in general but that makes them better suited to NOS. You're not a NOS fan as far as I can see so I doubt you'd find enough value there to part with money 🙂

Cortex M4 has FPU and these are going to gradually make their way into consumer audio applications as the price falls. LPC4088 looks a promising part for example but NXP is being very coy about providing any data on their website.
 
Yeah that's 48 kHz, 96 kHz and 192 kHz. Not 48x. Communication is much easier when things are named correctly.

no it isnt, I meant what I said: 48x integers, as in 1 x 48000 = 48khz, 2 x 48000 = 96khz, 4 x 48000 = 192khz. all speeds have an integer of 48, not 44.1

a dac that does all the speeds, with dual clocks is said to support 48* and 44.1* integers (also known as multipliers), its no more correct to say it supports 44.1khz and 48khz multipliers and there are sometimes speeds in between, such as 32000hz, which cannot be divided by 48000 with whole numbers, but it can be divided by 48

4 x 48khz does not equal 192khz, thats a mixed term that doesnt really make sense. 4 x how many of those 48000 divisions?

Hifi360 HF-PLA problem

I recently received one of these Hifi360 HF-PLA players from Shenzhen Audio. Apparently they forgot to change the menu into English for me. Anyway, when I turn it on and load an SD card the display says 'Hifi360', but none of the buttons on the machine or on the remote bring about any response or change.
Shenzhen sent instructions on changing the language into English but of course I can't even get a menu up. So I think there must be a fault, but I'm wondering if any owner of this has an idea of anything that I could try.
Shenzhen are trying in their way to help, but their latest suggestion was that I send a video or pictures of my attempts to operate the player!
