There are lots of places if you look around. One of them is here.

The SPS-2000 was specifically made for the NS-2000. The NSX-10000 had it's own Yamaha stand, the SPS-10000. Personally I prefer the look of the SPS-2000 which was in black.

Active NS1000M
Hi,
I am researching making my NS1000M speakers active. I seem to come across references to active NS1000Ms, but I never seem to find a good thread describing what someone actually did.
Can some kind NS1000M enthusiast point me to the right place(s) for my investigation?
The reason for the active interest is that I am kind of obliged to do this for a pair of JBL speakers, and I want a compatible set up for when I plug the NS1000Ms back in. Also I am hoping for an overall improvement.
Thanks for reading🙂

Questions: List of modification Yamaha NS 1000M
Hello
I am living in Paris and I have a very nice pair of Yamaha NS 1000M. According to your comments, it seems that we can improve the sound by changing the crossover and using a very good stand. Could I have the list of all modification to do in order to improve the speackers (i.e. cross over, wires, cabinet, stand (height)...?
Do you know where I can ask to do a new filter or buy a new one?
Thank you
Marck

Hello.
Check out this link: http://www.cadaudio.dk/ampmodules.htm
They are really good.
BTW: does anyone know where I can get a pair oF JA 0513:s?sale? Yes, my tweeters are dead.

Marck the list of mods have already been well described at the beginning of this thread.
My main ambition now is to see if I can improve the sound staging.???narrower cabinets ??closer tolerance to the caps in the crossover

No play with the cabinets is advised. The dimensions are integrated to the driver responses. Try to toe them in hard so the left speaker hits the right wall before it hits the listening position, crossing well before you. Same for the right one. Maybe now you find the 3D better? Simple to do if you have never did. Let us know.
salas - do you advise mids and tweeters to the inside or the outside?
Do you have a set of these, and if so, how would you rate them compared to the better contemporary speakers? What I am getting at, really, is an opinion on whether these could still be considered reference quality for duties such as mixing and even mastering - both with an appropriate sub crossed in very low, like 40Hz.
I have an opportunity to buy a pair with new matched tweeters for $1000, and I am trying to decide between them and a pair of P-Audio 18" coaxials which are supposed to have a lot of potential with attention to crossover. I presume it would be a choice between massive dynamic potential (100dB/W) and refinement, both for the same price.

No I don't have a pair. I just have listened to them a lot in a studio.
Based on room acoustics, if there is enough side wall clearance mids & tweeters better be outside. Also with extreme toe in they can still be outside even with near side walls. That way you use more lateral space and get a bigger stage.
The NS-1000 kill many assumed better modern speakers still. The 100dB coax you mention may be needing great crossover engineering to play well and we don't have a reference about the outcome. So if we talk proven Yamaha VS P-Audio potential, I would say better be safe than sorry.

Hello,
Currently, I guess that you have improved your original crossover. Would you like to change your cabinet?
I am thinking to improve the cabinet too with a special material like the "Bitumen" in order to stiffen the enclosure.
Regards

Agreed.
I had the opportuníty to compare a pair of ATC SCM 50A, 3-way active studio monitors, of the latest incarnation to a pair of recapped NS1000M driven by a new Electrocompaniet class A amp: The difference was not that staggering.
The ATC:s are extremely tight and revealing, as expected from top-class, extemely expensive studio monitors. The Yamaha combo actually had better transient response. Both felt fine mixing on, the end result made the client pay 🙂. I´d change caps, no point messing with a near-perfect design.
18/1": madness, coax or not. They will never meet at 2K.

Can you please explain how it is biased towards a null result ??
Here are some thoughts from some MD's who do DBT research in the medical field but are also interested in audio.....

Here's another link to a paper given by Robert Harley, editor of TAS periodical, at a recent AES convention. He's been reviewing audio equipment for many years and has some strong convictions about DBT and the role of measurements in reviews.

They do, they do. And very well. =)
And FWIW - it's a 1.4" exit horn, not 1".
But for nearfield monitoring, the Yamaha may be the better choice - especailly upgraded.
do you guys have the schematic for the internal crossover for the ns1000M
planning to do an outboard crossover for this unit
thanks

For the record, my intention would be to use them in the midfield, at about 5 feet.

Hello
Have somebody already tried this crossover for Yamaha NS 1000M ?
Thank you

I am still amazed at the original iron core inductors they are still far superior to the air cored ones of ANY value. I have spent a lot of money on inductors - goertz and mundorf provide exactly the same effect as wired inductors. The voices and instruments lose body and tonal detail and natural warmth become less obvious. There is simply a more lighter albeit airier presentation with air cores. When I listen to people in front of me talking or hear acoustic /classical music live,it is the presentation of iron cores that is closer to these acoustic sensations I register in my brain.
I will need to try some of the more modern iron/nickle core inductors.
With my experiments I have learnt that the the Yams love audionote cables inside and out by a significant degree. I still tweak the cross over , and after much experimenting the only other significant improvement came after I used audio note copper caps as bypass for the mid range cap. More detail and clarity to a very significant degree.Doing this to other caps did not bring out a real improvement.IMHO of course!!!!!
I have yet to reach the limit of the Yamaha's, as I am more and more amazed by the detailed and realistic presentation they give each time i purchase/upgrade a component further along the chain i.e amps and sources. Some of these components include JAdis JP S2, audionote m5 pre, audionote signature silver 300b mnoblocks, and my favourite by a mile my own very very highly modified JAdis Defy (also not apparently a limiting factor in the chain!)audionote dac 4.1,revox , pink triangle da capo etc etc. etc.
I have not missed my stacked Quads at all since the crossover and internal wiring mods and removing the wool from behind the woofer. Prior to that i could not live with its slightly lean and recessed midrange sound. So stock (although now becoming a slightly fading memory) it is not Perfect IMHO, far from it.
In case people have missed that part removing the wool from behind the woofer opens up layers of information and transparency which makes them sound even more live. But this then leads to an imbalance with leanness in the midrange and a more prominent sounding upper frequency range. This is where all the other mods readdress that balance and make transparency stay but bring back all the good virtues present before without the blanket over the sound.
I have just purchased OTL Atma -sphere M60's and am waiting their arrival from USA. Will they be too much of a good thing for the YAMS???
I have had close friends and strangers (collecting hifi stuff from my house they bought on ebay) gob smacked at the sound of the yams. Of course some of these people have known me for years and all my systems in their various incarnations so I must still be progressing.

Hi Audiojoy.
You may want to try an EI type inductor on the woofer circuit.
Internal wiring, I prefer solid core for all but with different
gauge.

I have received the atma-spheres and yes they are special they have a transparency and ability to shape sound to make them more emotional involving than any other amp I have ever owned. There is a certain lack of upper bass warmth but otherwise superb. The strange thing i am now feeling is that I am once again beginning to approach and appreciate the sound of my hypersensitive avantgarde duo's I once owned.Speed and transparency to music making which can sometimes overwhelm you but in the end were not consistently satisfying enough to keep.....poor bass etc. Yes the Yams now remind me of my Avantgarde duo's but with excellent bass.!!!!!!!!when the atmasphere M60's are used.
Infact i would say that the bass on the YAMS are absolutely excellent with OTL's, wonderful speed timing and definition, which makes the notes clearly stand out from the mix instead of being a 'mishmash' of things.
Does any one know where i am leading with this in terms of forward progression before I figure it out for myself???
Salas you are usually in tune with my thoughts.
