Thanks X. What inside width and height would you pick for best overall effect upon cone control and horizontal polars?
Width is typically a couple in wider than driver bezel. The aperture should be big enough to let the sound out without a cupped sound. I worry more about natural sound than cone control for a full range driver.
My W5-2143 XKi’s have been in use as HT bookshelf speakers for past couple of months. They literally are stuck inside the cubby hole made by a shelf. The family has been using them daily and powered by Dayton APA150 FRD from TV’s Toslink to an optical to RCA converter. They play quite loud with good bass extension. My wife likes them.

That makes sense on avoiding the "cupped"/"canned" sound.. 12250TC is probably better than average for K type applications.
A question - if one is contemplating an XKi alignment using hornresp, which curve might they pick below between those two front chambers? - or is the approximation too lax to determine a "winner" ?
Does the cavity peak reach full intensity in practice? Depending upon tuning and driver parameters, a "K10" size scaled Karlson can peak around 210Hz, giving a sharp emphasis to percussion.
If -3dB @60Hz at 95dB are really attainable, then this should be punchy.

Has anyone made a build and cut sheet for using a 15” sub driver? Like a Dayton HO
And a 12” one as well
And a 12” one as well
to reach low - a vented box might make best sense - tuning is low so an XKi with adequate vent area might be difficult. One could always put a slot lens in front of a driver.

hello X - when you get the time, I'd like an XKi alignment for PA310 which can hit hard at 55Hz. (-want classic drum tuning to be strong at high levels.)
Def_Driver "PA310-8" | DAYTON 96.1dB 450 watts Xmax 5mm
Sd=530.9cm2
Fs=39Hz
Mms=72.8g
Qms=8.85
Qes=0.30
Re=5.5ohm
BL=18.0Tm
Vas=91.8L
I came up with a small one (38 liter) in hornresp but not sure how it might fare. Maybe there's
a somewhat better solution.

PA310 XKi box
Hey X - does this size look workable and should 3 liters for the vent be added to the box? I'd like to keep it small and punchy - don;t know if all would fit at 17" internal height by 13" baffle width and internal 11" depth.

Here's a fairly small XKi for W8-1772 - does it look feasible?
also, besides the Fane XKi, one for PRV 10FR300 might be cool.
Can you think of a way to mitigate the cavity peaks other than adding
a stub adjacent to the vent (like over top of the XKi vent) or applying EQ?
Kappa 12 looks pretty promising plus a known good Karlson speaker. That
back chamber could be reduced to one cubic foot and tune it ~60Hz.

I really enjoyed the Mini Karlsonator 0.4x with 3fe22 so I think give the W5-2143 XKi a try. It looks very good. I’ve tried to find out the extent of foam inside. Can someone explain or sketch? Covering all but slot?
Please see this post:
XKi - X's ab initio Karlson 6th Order Bandpass
We use the XKi W5-2143 everyday as our main speakers for the flat screen TV used for the basement dance studio. They fit right inside the TV shelf and sound great. Very nice bass and great wide sweet spot.

also - if building a regular XKi whose proportions require leaning the baffle back pretty far - which of the below is "better" ?

the stub form "sim" has been called wishful thinking and may well be.
Do you think its worth a try as POC? The stub should:
calm the first peak somewhat
plus give a bit more on the low end, resulting in a flatter passband.

I’ll let you do the math. Just make sure the volume is the same, 1/3rd of the volume is front chamber and 2/3rds the back. Make the vent cross sectional area the same and the vent length the same. Then, the driver needs to fit.
Hey XRK971 - couple of questions on this proposed "stubby-K" box. (I realize a smart guy said the fudge sims are wishful thinking)
What might you change aperture wise and other-wise? Does it look basically "OK"? The smoothing stub comprises part of the front chamber and should be useful with lower Qts drivers - whether good with moderate Q = to be found out.
With my old P-Audio SN10 and 12mm plywood, it might make a semi-portable mono boombox, An XKi probably would be better for stand alone as the "FM2" box is meant to have subwoofer support.
Beta8cx XKi would be perfect in size for a mono boom-box. Have you re-thought that design?
Aperture's top moved down to just below the port's lower boundary

Do You have a drawing? It's a bit different from your post #723. I have the W5-2143's and eager to get started.I’ll let you do the math. Just make sure the volume is the same, 1/3rd of the volume is front chamber and 2/3rds the back. Make the vent cross sectional area the same and the vent length the same. Then, the driver needs to fit.
For the W5-2143 XKi, make the box 10in deep x 8in wide x 12in tall (all inside dims) with a 8in wide x 0.5in gap vent that is 5.75in long. The front driver mount panel setback is 4in deep to provide a 20% front chamber volume and 80% rear chamber volume. Make the wings following usual K style with the edges of K-aperture curves just touching the driver surround when viewed from the front. Line all surfaces adjacent to back of driver with felt, as well as front chamber sides and back side of K aperture to reduce first reflections.
Oh sorry - it was 20% for front chamber. The description you posted is correct.
Here is drawing and build photos.
