Would you put these speakers in your living room?

Usually in the form follows function camp, bu tthis driver really isn't so nice to look at.
Not as bad as a big sub with a neon ring on the cone but it screams "upcycled from used car tires" for me and looks as if it would smell like that too.

I mentioned it in the first post, however, given the shape of TG's original build, it won't be that easy since you'll have to build an angled grid. Vintage cabinets were friendlier, due to their rectangular and flat shapes.
And some fancy cabinets do care about diffraction but not looks, I haven't seen these come with a factory grating. It will be a fad, and the wives will have to be convinced:

"They are used like this now, my love" 😍

I plan to put them in my family room (where my system is) and my wife is good with that. Yes, they are not good looking, but neither of us care about that all that much. We are looking forward to how well they should perform, assuming my design and implementation skills can do them justice. To each there own.

Fyne Audio has introduced "fluted surrounds", a technology which they say "provides a non-homogeneous interface which very effectively terminates the speaker cone energy".

And they look very nice too! 😎

Fyne Audio is a Glasgow firm run by ex-employees of Tannoy who have continued to develop the design of coaxial drivers.

If they sound as great as their reputation, I would have no problem with the way they look. I haven't had the good fortune of ever listening to them, but I also don't think that they look bad either. When I'm the deepest into listening, I tend to close my eyes anyway. 😎

They definitely look great . 🙂
I like coaxial and I would have liked to have Tannoy cabinets, but living in South America, JBL mainly came here. I'm talking about the time of the Tannoy Monitor Gold, the Reds, etc.

I just saw on this forum a community purchase of these Purifi twoofers, and a thread with more than 60 posts !
I hope no one feels bad about my post, I swear it was inspired by TG's web site. Now I hope he doesn't read this thread, me and my big mouth! ....🙄

Indeed they look ugly, and besides, I see nothing wrong with conventional design speaker surrounds.
You have to look at current marketing trends and wonder of the validity of some products, as well as their real benefits.
Personally, I like my living room to look like a living room, without eyes being distracted and focused on visible/bare drivers.
It's a living room, traditionally furnished, some modern pieces, not some tacky stereo store with grille-less speaker systems all over the place and open shelves of components.
I don't have the need to "impress" anyone with equipment, they are impressed with the sonics.

I can recognize an Akai 4000 D or DB reel recorder (the difference was just the Dolby system) and maybe the cabinet is a Gusdorf, made in Canada, very easy to put together and beautiful tinted doors and magnetic closures.
I can't see the other components well, but if the photo is or was from your system, congratulations ! 😊
And the speakers? Diy? What are they ?

The cabinet is Ikea, matches the TV stand next to it, grey laminate, smoke tint glass door, but I can still use the remote through it.
It looks like black glass.
The system is all Technics except for the turntable, a Kenwood, and on top is my DIY tube amp- EL84's with 17w/ch. Akai 4000D on bottom.
Speakers are Advent Maestros.
Still in the corner of my living room.

Here's another pic from 10 years ago.... the TV's been replaced with a Panasonic LED set since then.
And some decor was changed.

Very cute, congratulations ! 👍
I see that you like photographs in sepia tones, I suppose that ten years ago that option was already in smartphones, it is a good "vintage" touch.
Now for a well-intentioned critique:
Have you corrected that position of the cabinets? There is no stereo image there and no sense of depth possible !
I don't want to think that WAF predominates over sound quality, I can't tolerate that! I have been divorced three times, the problem that I did not take into account was the cost in my finances, now I hear with this .... 😞 : ( attached )
When I saw your photographs, it occurred to me that a thread here in the style of "Show us your audio system" would be good.
Maybe it already exists and I have not seen it, I think that some moderator could get me out of doubts ...
