I was actually very interested in NUCs but seemed to have been discontinued by good old Intel. So what’s the replacement. Also got fully licensed HQPlayer collecting dust. As I see it one needs a top tier gaming machine with GPU cuda offload to take advantage of some of the high end features of HQPlayer?
Yes, color and how much light they put out, more so lumin than the color, it was a very long time ago, I had forgotten that aspect, thanks!

A smart phone or tablet is likely less noisy that any kind of PC no matter how optimized.
It runs off a battery, it is designed to automatically shut down parts of the SoC that are not being used... Automatically.
When playing audio only, it will shut down most of its cores, most of its multimedia, and most of its modems. If you have a large SD-Card then you can have the files in the phone/tablet to begin so you can play in "airplane" mode.
So, an Android Tablet running WiFi to a WiiM Ultra as a bridge to a USB DAC is both bit perfect and is the quietest.
Likely there's only one better interface.. if you run the bit perfect driver in the Tablet and drive the DAC though a USB-OTG cable. Supposedly Android 14 provides this...

I haven't looked at what NUCs are available these days. I can only tell you what I have at home at the moment, which is NUC11 (BNUC11TNKV70000 Tiger Canyon) with the i7-1185G7 processor. The thing is very small - I tucked it away from eyesight inside the cabinet.
You do not need any GPU offload to run a really good DSD modulator and filter at x256DSD. You could go up to x512, but the modulator AND filter quality have to drop. The modulator and filter quality in this regard outweighs quantity (x256 vs. x512) - easily.
Two combos are shown below, both sounding exceptionally good. The PCM combo, in particular, with that dither, bit depth resolution of my DAC, will improve the dynamic range by 10dB (measured by Jussi)

I thought all will be fine continuing this way for some reference listening until I got a boot message from Microsoft congratulating how great to see this machine lasting close to 10yrs but unfortunately cannot support beyond this year. Recommended suitable replacements for my use case - how sneaky 😏 I wonder if there is a kill switch if ignored😳

The seller OWES me 50 bucks for not honoring the sale. He has it for sale at 50 more than he advertised it to me... so IMHO, he refuses to honor the terms of my purchase. I paid him in good faith.
Either they send me the product, which I want it, or they pay me an addtional $50 in damages because now I will have to go buy it for that much more.

Hmm... maybe I'll keep spinning records on the LP12.... with the Keel, Ekos 2, Grado Master 2, Karousel, Trampolin 2, Pearl 3, Burson v7 op amps in it...

I only ordered once from Aliexpress and it did not go well. The price was really low, I wondered how they could not have a loss after shipping, simple, do not ship it. I received an order message, shipped message and then a delivery message saying I was unavailable to receive it which was total BS as I was sitting at my desk in front of a big window most of the day and if not can easily hear somebody pull up on the gravel drive right beside our place. Then getting a refund, I forget now but it was something I just did not want to bother with, not worth my time even being retired.
And I still get adverts from them all the time for crap I am not interested in, I guess I need to do something about that since I opted out once already.

Well, I'm still waiting to get my money from those thieves- ComfortCrest Applicances..... at this point in time is has become a point for me to get my money back and to make sure those ***** don't get away with it. And I can't give them bad feedback as AliExpress only allows you to enter feedback for a vendor when they "invite" you to do so.
As soon as I get my money back, I'm gonna cancel my account and put AliExpress, ALIPAYUSINC and ComfortCrest Applicances into a black hole in my Paypal and CC accounts.

The DVD player and the turntable are inputs; the digital audio stream is going to the WiiM Ultra USB out, and then to an external DAC. Can I:
1. Control the volume on WiiM Ultra with either input selected?
2. Use the WiiM Ultra 10-band PEQ with either input selected?
Is there an embedded Spotify app, for hassle-free streaming through USB out? (I assume the 10-band PEQ will work in this case 100%)?
What is the resolution of the digital audio out (USB out) stream?.. and can it be changed for each input option? Is there an upsampled combination at which the PEQ is not available/can not be used/does NOT work?

How is working the digital volume pot on all those streamers please when using external DAC?

Small update on the room EQ. Using my Oppo android phone, it all recognises my Dayton Audio USB microphone, so I'm hoping for better results than with the onboard phone MIC. Shall report back. Also the Wiim now has per channel room EQ, so it sweeps L and then R.
