why are old school amps worth so much?

Could someone else check out this auction? Maybe even ask the seller what I asked, or even request he post more pics. I'm thinking about reporting it to ebay as fraudulent. I sent him a message to let him know about the short size of the amp and the 30 amp fuse. I know the regular art amps were a little shorter than the .2 series as I've owned both, but that thing just looks small. Also notice how blurry the red numbers on the amp are so you can't see them clearly, and how he only has one small pic. Here was his reply:

"hmmm yea the amps are great i loved it when i had it up and running and it does read 600 on it. thanks for the concern

I smell fraud :whazzat:

Too much for me I bet. Funny how that same size ppi has a few more parts in it🙂 I figured you were around here someplace, I just bought a pile of other amps so no fun for me. How about a beater Magtone 😕 28031377512

My sansui works fine, but I'm not going to call it the same as other old school 2x75 I have or had. I have to get my 3555 alpine going I'm way too slow on this.

If I ever get my power test bench setup I will see what rms they do.

Oh no you better grab this one mr. ppi... 220365372446 😀

Last one on Ebay went for $76 , I doubt this one will go that high.

Being used and dirty will probably make it sell for less, but a "pyramid" selling for 76 is still commendable.
Cleaning it up and mentioning ppi made it might help, but I guess he isn't going to do either, lol. Mine was over 100 but new. The guy I got mine from also sold his other new model after mine for over 100.

The pyramid guy has a note on it now that its a PPI, still a dirty thing. Heck I bought my sansui for 35 but like near 20yr ago...but hey it was near new back then. IMO the secondary PPIs are not the same as originals, you can tell on ampguts, but whatever.

That PPI, I think you are right it is an A200 or A300. Unless the photo is craftily distorted there is no way that is a A600. 600 RMS@12v, yeah right. 🙄 That amp is square or close to it.

I mean you could shove any fuse in it I guess (A200 is 30A), but its square.

...and it has a 30 amp fuse, you'd think if he had any sense at all he would change that out. Yeah, its definately a 300. I'm going to watch and see if he gets bad feedback after that sale, lol.

How ironic

Someone sniped the pyramid at the end for $76 total. Maybe I should put that sansui on there I'd take that.

ben04srt said:
yeah, I should have bid more than 45 max.
I have lost the last 3 amps like that.

Keep your eyes open, there's bound to be another that someone thinks is just a pyramid.

I got it. $57.xx shipped with my 8% off coupon. Also got the last one that went for $76+shipping.

Are we the only two here so far that have these? Also, is there a catch to using those coupons, I also have one.

I don't see them pop up too often but when I do I try to get them. Haven't seen anyone else with one. Now I'll have one of each heatsink style. No catch on the coupon as far as I know, just enter the code when checking out.

Mine looks like the one you just won. What does your other look like? I didn't know those had more than one heatsink style.

The one I have is square like the crutchfield and pro line amps that used the same board.

Anyone know about these ancient alpine 3002 2x50w? I thought about bidding but my experience is the early din only alpines are a pain to use and not that great due to lowish power levels and zero features compared to other amps. Not bad for 35, there were two of them some amp buyer scooped up. I paid a lot more for LP 1002, but then a lot of people want those and I only got them for a friend.

Wonder who that amp buyer was?😀 Seemed to have bought all that Alpine stuff. Someone got a super deal whoever it was...

I kind of wondered 🙂 They sure looked nice but I've hassled with the 3518 (2x40) I've run and they sound nice but just not that big an amp, unless those are more special or something. Great for collecting none the less, don't see those around.

Don't miss this one 250377395485, though I think the paint is missing.

This Sansui is a little pricey but rare none the less.

I have the baby brother to that one. Yes pricey indeed, but guess that is a pretty hefty amp or should I say two amps. Who would like to put new outputs in that 😱 I'm going to power test mine against a rubicon 302 soon as I get more bench room.

That is 2x300rms at 4 ohm though, so if it is 2 ohm stable like I imagine that is a big amp.

Yeah, that's why I didn't even bother to bid on it! What else did he have?

Neat for a collection, but a pain as the transistors tend to detach. At least in the smaller ones, and assembly was similar. I'd let my Autotek 7600 go for less than that, and it's more reliable.

I want some more Autotek 7600's. Got anymore? Free? Cheap? I will give them a good home. I had some in my bug back in the early days. Super amps. The Alpine seller had some more cables, and I made an offer on the 3015 eq he had that didn't sell. Total I think I bought 14 items. (like I really need anymore Alpine) It was cheap though... Thinking about making a shelf just for the Alpine stuff around here. Got a lot. Took some new pics of some more stashed goodies. I started a new photopage too. See link below...

Man, I can't believe you have a pair of PA6050's still in the boxes.

And a nice P1.

I want some more Autotek 7600's. Got anymore?

Some more... that sounds plain silly.

And here I was proud of the one I have. It's not genetically attached like the Zapco's, but it IS my only Autotek. Trades?

I can't wait to see that VW video, but it'll have to be tomorrow.
